Hi Eric,
Good talking to you on the phone, looks like as we discussed there are two ways to measure the diameter of a buffing pad,
1. Backing Plate Surface Diameter
2. Face of pad diameter
Our store pages calls the 41-005 a 7.5 inch pad and it measures that way across the face of the pad and the backing plate surface diameter measures at about 6" to 6 1/4"
There's some wiggle room with both ways of measuring.
The goal here is to create a database of information on the different buffing pads we offer so a person can choose the best pad for their project, (type and size for buffing on paint), and then match the right backing plate for the pad.
So maybe I'll just create a listing with both measurements? Front pad diameter and back of pad diameter.
That way everyone will have as much information as possible when gathering information. The forum world is kind of detail oriented so this should satisfy everyone's quest for knowledge.

You can use this backing plate with any rotary polisher with a 5/8 -11 spindle threaded shaft
Are the Meguiar's W65 and the W68 backing plates the same diameter? I just wondered because your above article links to the W65 backing plate but shows pictures of the W68 backing plate.
Just curious, thanks
I currently have the new style black W64 for my rotary, but will probably be getting the W68 or W65 for larger pads in the future, just not sure which one yet.
