    The Departure Lake Country Hydrotech

Sign of the times I guess.

All these pads used and developed pre-Rupes seem targeted for termination.

I spoke with customer service from LC a couple days ago, and I asked about the status of the Hydrotech pads since I didn't see them on their site.

It was confirmed that they are still being made for select outlets, but will be getting phased out after the supply of foam was depleted.

So if you're a fan, you might want to stock up!

Thankfully, Buff and Shine has the Uro-Cell pads, which are of a similar foam composition. I had some, but I liked the LC Hydrotech style better for the PC.

The Uro-Cell aren't recommended for the large orbit tools, but I'm going to give them a try anyways.

So long, Hydrotech. I enjoyed ya.

How is Rupes involved with this?

I stocked up on hydrotechs when PBMG had them heavily discounted, the cyan and tangerine specifically. Ended up getting 20 pads for less than $100, one hell of a deal.

This is one of the reasons I bought the Buff and Shine 6 packs of plain old flat foam pads for years for my PCs

They worked just fine (they still do), were relatively cheap, and they never fundamentally changed year after year, and 15+ years later they are still available

They obviously have better pads now but there is something to be said for old standbys

Sad to see a trusted and familiar product go away

When Rupes first arrived on the scene, the large orbit of the machines would put a lot of stress on the traditional pads.

In Rupes own line of pads, people found that the yellow in particular to be very useful and thus they became the new standard. Just take a look around the industry and you'll see that the premium offerings are usually based on the initial Rupes design. This style pad was found to hold up better to the extreme lateral movement of the large orbit tools. They also became popular for people using Porter Cable and Flex 3401 style machines as well.

    Buff and Shine Uro-Tec
    Buff and Shine Low Pro
    Lake Country UDO
    Lake Country HD Orbital (discontinud)
    Lake Country HDO
    Lake Country SDO
    Griot's Boss Foam Pads
    Hex Logic Quantam
    Carpro pads
    Various import SPTA style foams
And way ore that I'm probably not even aware of.

Same! I think I got the last of them. The 1.25" tall version?

Buff and Shine was always my go to. I do still use them with the Porter Cable quite a bit.

The Hydrotech was a unique line that I personally enjoyed. It is a bummer to see them be phased out, but from a business standpoint I can see why.

Just "guessing" here but don't be surprised if Lake Country eliminates the relatively revamped flat, and CCS lines of "cut back" pads down the line.

    Just the HDO/SDO.

They're finding that the foams in the HDO/SDO lines can cover the ground that the Hydrotech and even the standard flat/ccs cut back lines can cover. Often out performing the legacy pads on a wider range of tools.

    See this,

Lake Country HDO Foam vs Hydro-Tech Foam

It’s all about tensile strength or lack there of.
