Spindle size on the Griot's 3" Mini Polisher - Also... don't do this...

Spindle size on the Griot's 3" Mini Polisher - Also... don't do this...

I think it was before I left for Mobile Tech Expo this year that someone asked about the thread size for the new Griot's HD 3" Backing Plate?

    The question was,

Would the new Griot's 3" HD Backing Plate fit on the Griot's Garage 3" Mini Polisher?

I answered the question in the thread and said,

    "yes"

I also took some pictures to show that it would fit but at the time I didn't have the new 3" HD Backing Plate so I used a normal Lake Country 5" Backing Plate to tell the story. The story is that most of the simple DA polishers or what I call entry level dual action polishers all use the same thread size free spinning spindle which is a 5/16" thread pitch.

While processing pictures for this weekend's boat class I found the Griot's pictures on the camera memory card so instead of moving them off to some obscure folder where they will get covered in cyber dust, I simply processed them.

Here they are, they tell the story but be WARNED - Don't use a 5" backing plate on a Griot's 3" polisher. It's too big in case you can't figure it out. I simply used the 5" backing plate to show that it and most other backing plates all use the same thread size stud and by way of comparison the bigger picture is that YES the new Griot's 3" HD Backing Plate WILL fit on the Griot's 3" polisher but you still DON'T want to use it on this small polisher as it's TOO BIG in mass and my guess is you'll wear out the bearing that supports the free spinning spindle.

Now using the knowledge of knowing how to upload pictures to a gallery and then insert them on the Interweb...

Mike, what format are the pictures when you up load them?

Also it would be nice I if the 5 inch would perform well on the gg3 it looks like it would be a small compact defect removal setup.

I resize all my pictures to 800 pixels wide, (don't really care what the height is), and use the .jpg file format.

I use Easy Thumbnails to resize my pictures and Photoshop Elements v15 to crop out the fluff before resizing.

Autogeek recently upgraded my computer OS from XP Professional Service pack 3 to Windows 7 so I've had to re-teach myself how to use some software and get used to some of the annoying user interface differences from XP to 7 - Ugh....

I use to write articles on how to work with pictures for the Internet world but I've pretty much given up.

If you look at or read most posts in the forum world it appears most people don't know how to work with pictures.

It's easy for Facebook if you have a phone but actually takes some knowledge and skill to do so on the Internet generically and forums specifically.

I've been trying to load .Jpg from my phone through the app and the website but there is always an error so just trying to narrow down the cause.

Wow windows XP, that's a huge update

honestly its not even that powerful with a three inch backing plate, i just use mine to spread wax. if i need something powerful for defects i put the three inch backing plate on the gg6

I've found that it's powerful enough to remove sanding marks.
