Question purple or orange pad after 3k sanding

Which to use after sanding with 3k paper? It's on a newer re-paint (black)...using FG400 followed with fg4000 (black pad).

    Using a PC7424xp

orange would be fine. I use orange after 3k on headlights with mint results

Edit: are you using lake country ccs?

Yes, I use the ccs pads. Are they really different than ones w/out the dimples?

I noticed when going to Harbor Freight that they sell orange pads for $5/ea....are these junk?

I would go with a Meguiar's microfiber cutting pad.

I agree with using the orange ccs. I took out some 2000 grit with Surf City Garage's Beyond Clay Polish, on a Craftsman 5" random orbit sander. The FG400 should be able to handle the 3000 grit with ease.

The nice thing about the ccs pads, is that they run a bit cooler, and are very smooth operating. I don't use enough product on the pad to encounter any issues with polish getting stuck in the pockets.
