I worked on My buddy's 2007 Shelby GT this last weekend as his car had some mild water spot etches on the entire left side of his car. The right side had no waterspot etching at all. He asked me why only on the left side and not the right.
There was a simple explanation and I let him know it was his water sprinkler system. When his yard sprinkler system went on it sprayed the car and little on the lawn. Since we live in So Cal the weather was hot and it baked into his car. He left his car in the driveway for a couple of days. Previously, I worked on his car and put a sealant and a wax and the hard water deposits ate through both sealant and wax. I let him know that if there was no protection it would have been worse.
What I did to repair: After washing and claying, the water spots were still there. I tried a test spot used SF4500 with a white 6.5" Hybrid Pad with my Flex 3401 at speed setting 5 and some but not all spots came off.
I went more aggressive and did a 2 Step process. I used a 6.5" Hybrid Blue Pad (less aggressive than an Orange pad) with Menzerna FG400 and then followed up with Menzerna SF4500 and here is the results. I used Speed setting 5 for both and then finished with a sealant (Menzerna Powerlock) topped with Sonax 100% Carnauba. The total process from start to finish was about 6 hours.
I hope you guys like the pics! Before, after and final result. Have an awesome day everyone!!
