Don't try to machine sand with a rotary buffer. When you sand with a rotary buffer it's no longer called sanding it's called grinding.

Use the orbital to sand and then use the rotary to remove your sanding marks.

What do you have for a wool pad for your cordless rotary?

    What size is the Durawool?

    Is it this one?

6.5 inch Hook & Loop DuroWool 100% Twisted Wool Cutting Pad

When removing sanding marks you're going to be cutting hard, by this I mean you're going to be pushing the rotary against the boat hard.

In my boat classes I show finishing out at #4000 grit Mirka Abralon. This cost more as you must purchase the sanding discs but the reward is because the sanding marks are shallow they are faster and easier to buff out.

This mean less standing at the side of a boat pushing hard with a rotary buffer for hours.

For this type of buffing I prefer and old school wool pad, like the Durowool.

Try what you have and let us know how it goes.

I will wet sand with Mirka 3000 ( might even try 2000, followed by then 3000, then 4000) followed by 4000 Mirkaon orbital. Then Marine31 compound n polish using the 6.5 Durowool twisted that you have shown above using the rotary. Hopefully my supplies from AG arrive by fri if not i will tackle the following weekend . This is when i wish i had a 18 ft boat instead of 24.5 ft bowrider. Thanks for all the advice.

What is the plan for polishing after compounding?

And what is the plan for sealing the gel-coat after polishing?

Plan for polishing after compounding:M31 one step compound polish with yellow or orange LC flat foam pad ( or medium cut pad that I have in my arsenal of pads)using Orbital

Plan for sealing : M31 gel coat Carnauba Wax n Sealant with Orbital. Was thinking ceramic coat, but that’s a lot of boat to coat
