    Decal "ghosting" trouble...

I have a customer's black 2019 Toyo Taco pickup and he removed his rear panel FX4 decals. He did a great job but what remains is the outline of the decal and he asked if I could wetsand it down.

I tried 3M 3000 grit and no dice. It remains almost untouched, almost like the paint is swelled in a thin line outlining the old decal.

I've wetsanded literally hundreds of times, mainly scratch repairs but don't like removing too much clear.

Any fellas or fellettes with more experience with paint behavior want to hazard any suggestions?

I tried to get a pic but failed enough to not post it here...sorry.

I’d leave it alone, I’ve had decals in the past that I could see the ghost, but after six months of normal use and being in the Florida sun, it goes away.

Yes, probably the best advice, Glen. Thanks.

The customer was disappointed because his new decal for those spots is smaller and will leave the factory decal ghosting exposed.

He accepted my explanation of not going any further and retaining his clearcoat thickness. I just hate to get beat by something!

Clear coat doesn't fade much, but the base color coat will. Being black its even more noticeable.
