Should I buy a buffer or just pads?

I have a 70 Cutlass with a ram air type hood, I need to buff it out, but my buffer is way to big to get in the valleys, and contours of the hood, hood is sanded down to 2000 grit. I need a buffer that will cut good, what buffer should I buy? I don't what a buffer that will not cut! and foam pads are not cutting it. I have a 3" Griot's and a 5" Harbor freight, and nether one with a foam pad ( orange lake ) is working! should I buy a different buffer? or do I need a different pad? I called my local detailer and he said to many contours for him! what! He didn't even come and look at it, said he knew what the hood looks like and to much work for him.

What compound did you use with the Lake Country Orange pad? And which pad line of LC pad is it?

Lake Country Thin Foamed Wool Pads will get you a high cut. And in combo with for an example Sonax Cutmax compound. Your both polishers would get the p2000 sanding marks out I think. If you have problems with the 3" polisher backing plate is to big. GG has a 2" backing plate that fit the GG 3" polisher great. A mf cutting pad and a aggressive compound would also work. If you don't have an extreme hard paint.

SONAX CutMax Cutting Compound 250 ml.

Using flat pads, and was using HD cut, changed to red pads and 3M Rubbing Compound, now it's working fine. guess I need to change things up. HD cut worked on rest of car, just not on hood! Don't know why, unless glass hood has something to do with it, But I would think not. Anyway everything good now. Thanks
