    Rusted out Sirius Antenna Resiude

Excuse me if this is in the wrong section mods, please feel free to move if so.

So I purchased a mazda 3 2006 the other day. It had a Sirius Radio antenna mounted on the trunk with the sticky pads. It was installed when it was first purchased in 2006. Well I took some floss, and cut er' off! But it left some damn sticker material and a ring of rust!

Now It looks like the rust is just surface, and all potentially on top of the paint. So what would be the best method to remove the residue, and then the surface rust in hopes of salvaging the underlying paint?

That IS nasty looking! Least aggressive method first. Soapy water, obviously ... maybe a product like Iron-X ... a light polish or cleaner wax ... GooGone or an adhesive remover if there is still some padding left ... sometimes an erasure wheel on a drill is needed for the really tough two sided tape that is old and brittle. One step at a time to see what comes off. More pics as you go if it isn't working.

Whoa! Unless it looks totally different in person, I'm envisioning a grinder, filler, primer, base coat and clear coat.
