The wipe off of that compound looks like too much effort looks like the compound is sticking to the paint
Wrong choice of compound in my opinion. If it was me I would use foam and a polishing compound on that soft paint

I don't think your friend will ever listen. I feel your pain on the car. I don't think he will try to change because detailing takes time and most people don't want to spent time doing the work. People want the work to be fast and easy.
You should give him a cleanser wax that way it's fast and safe.
I tell my friends about taking care of their car but they never listen. They say like "it's just a car" they love their cars but they don't want to spent time taking care of the car.
