I just used Ult Polish (more or less D205) on my dad's straight black 'vette last night, I got the hood & fender tops before it got too cold to work and it came out a good 95+% even AFTER finding out he uses a Ca Car Duster and then simply wipes the rest of the dust etc off with a single dirty mf and some Mother's Show Time QD.

It was so humid, I had to mist some Meg's Gold Class QD on the Ult Polish to remove it cleanly. I can't wait to finish the car.

I used Ult Polish with a cutting pad and there were still a few defects here and there, so I probably could have used Ult Compound and got the paint near 95% or better. I'm thinking his car might have been repainted though, because it has tiny bubbled up spots on the fenders and the paint is a BC/CC (did 'vettes in '79 have two-stage paint, or were they single stage?).

I think if you were to take M205 or Ult Polish and a polishing or even a finishing pad, you might get the results you are after. You might also try LIGHTLY spraying some QD (I used Meg's Gold Class QD) on the panel to assist in removing the dried polish residue and minimize any marring that may occur during the removal if your paint is that soft.
