    DA for sanding operations

I have been doing a bit of wet sanding as of late with a finishing pneumatic DA. The one I am using is a Mirka with 3mm orbit. I know it is labeled as a finishing sander as a last step to finish with. Although I recall seeing somewhere that the 3M Trizact foam finishing discs should use a larger stroke DA to help keep the disc from clogging up with removed clear coat however I can not seem to find the information on what sized throw DA should be used. There is nothing on the box.

For sanding operations with 1500, 3000, 5000 paper I have been using 8mm and smaller. Curious as to how much more throw could be used in this scenario. Anyone try using a large stroke DA for sanding operations?

    Re: DA for sanding operations

Funny thing you posted this. Just had this quandary yesterday. I would say that the most you want throw wise is 12mm like the Deueto. I have a job coming next week that I had to order 3in and 6in Mirka abralon disks. Because I have a 3401 and g21 those are not suited for sanding. So I bought a used PC7424 with a 6in plate and I can use my GG 3in for the 3in disks.

I was tempted to use my 3401 but from my research I found it was not recommended. Todd Helm wrote about it on another forum.
