    Wheels embedded with rust bits

    Hello,
Been reading some forums that wheel brightener, Sonax, and Iron X is pretty good at heavy brake dust. However my situation is that this wheel had worn pads and was metal to metal. All these bits engraved themselves on the wheels. So far I have tried Griot's Heavy Duty cleaner which turns purple/red each time I spray on it but hardly affects it. I've also tried claying but there is way too much of this rust bits to get it off by clay alone.

Any tips? Wheels embedded with rust bits-1484615820767-jpgWheels embedded with rust bits-1484615827141-jpg

Iron X, Rupes or Soxax wheel cleaner. Agitate it with a brush. It will take more than one application.

Why not continue with the Griots HD wheel cleaner. Isn't basically the same chemistry, maybe just a little weaker?

Griots wheel cleaner was hardly making a dent in rust bits. I was hitting it 5 times with very little improvement after rubbing and agitating. You are right that is similar chemistry but it most certainly isn't touch free wash like Sonax can be. I'll have to see, Sonax comes in Wednesday.

It's going to take getting down and agitating those stains. There isn't going to be a spray and rinse solution.

I have had success with Iron X removing similar brake deposits. Like others have said, it took applying Iron X, allowing a full dwell time, agitating with a brush, rinsing to check progress, and repeating the process until I achieved the desired results.

I keep Iron X paste just for these situations.

Re: Wheels embedded with rust bits

I was thinking about trying to order the IronX Paste from another site. AG used to carry it, but it seems they no longer will. Then I though about how much Jeff (GSKR) said he likes their Snow Soap so I decided to look into it a little.

If you read the info on CarProUSA site, Snow Soap can be used a couple of different ways. Not just as a snow "foam" as I commonly thought it was. It seems you can use straight similar to the paste application.

When creating Iron-X Snow Soap, we imagined the time that could be saved by combining the iron-fallout removing power of Iron-X, with the cleaning and lubricating capabilities of an environmentally friendly surfactant. This idea formed the basis of one of the most versatile, and effective maintenance products on the market. By changing the dilution ratio Iron-X Snow Soap can be used as an iron-removing Snow Foam with a foam lance, with a mitten or sponge as a Shampoo, a Lubricant for clay and polymer decon products, or even a maintenance Wheel Cleaner. A true Multi-Purpose cleaner…

My personal favorite use of CarPro Iron X Snow Soap is as an excellent solution as a strong prep wash to assist in the removal of old wax, traffic film, grime, dirt, and brake dust/iron contaminants whilst providing an excellent lubricated surface during the wash cycle.

    Features:

Ease: Cuts through road grime & traffic film with ease
    Safe: pH Neutral
    Safe: High Lubricity
Quality: Utilizes only the highest quality cleaning agents & emulsifiers
Safe: Cleanses the bodywork gently with rich foam
Versatile: Use on paint, glass, wheels, headlights, plastic trim, & clear bras

Excellent on wheels (Apply gel directly to wheel and agitate the surface)

    Dilutions:
1-3 ounces in your foam cannon for simple snow foaming
Up to 1:8 - Light to Medium iron remover
Do not dilute if you desire a top strength prep solution

    Directions as Snow Foam:

    Rinse vehicle well
Add Iron X Snow Soap to Foam Cannon
Set your foam cannon to provide the foam concentration you prefer
Snow foam your car as normal and allow to dwell
Wash gently but thoroughly with wash mitt
    Rinse thoroughly

    Directions as Hand Wash:

    Rinse vehicle well
Apply 1 squirt of Iron X Snow Soap directly to wash mitt and wash a panel
Move to next panel(s) and repeat (rinse mitt and apply more product as needed based on level of dirt in mitt)
Allow IX Snow Soap to react but rinse off before it is able to dry on surface
    Notes:

IronX Snow Soap will affect oil base waxes by approximately 50%
    Avoid use on fabrics.
    Precautions:

Do not allow to dry on surface in sun.
Avoid use on hot surfaces or in direct sun.
Wash your hands well after use
May be irritating to eye & skin. We recommend the use of skin and eye protection for total peace of mind.
    Keep away from children
