How to Restore Faded Rubber Car Mats

    Hey all,

I have a 2016 Ford Escape. The black rubber mats that came with the vehicle are somewhat faded and I wanted to know how to restore them so that they look black again. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I assume their not WestherTech but even still, try the WeatherTech protectant. This product is made to recondition their floor liners without being slippery. I can tell this is true because I've been using the cleaner/protectant combo ever since it came out, on my 2nd bottle of both.

I have been very happy with McKees 37 Floor Mat and Cargo Liner Rejuvenator.

I used Mother's back to black on my Husky liners. it brought the color back to like new all the way across the mat. you know how they get dull where your foot rest all the time. made it like new & it's only 8.50 right now. you can't lose it's good for so many things.

    I second this.

It's probably not fair to say it will change the color, or even the tone of your mats. But it sure cleans them well and makes them look close to new again. If you have the rubber all weather mats with the ribs, I bet it would make those sparkle.

Clean with a APC and dress them with a water based product.

Do not use a silicon product, your feet will silp and could cause a crash.

I use Stoner Trim Shine (available from AutoGeek) water based, either interior or exterior to restore grey floor mats back to black. I let it dry and then knock it down lightly with a microfiber to remove the slipperiness. Works great.

My combo for cleaning rubber mats is to pressure clean them first. Then I spray a good amount of degreaser on them (usually either Meguiars Super Degreaser at 4:1 or Orange degreaser) and let it sit a few minutes. Then scrub them with a tire brush. Pressure rinse them off and let them dry.

Once dry you will most likelly find spots that are still dirty. Just spray some degreaser on those spots and let sit a little then go at them with the brush once more. Rinse and dry.

Once they are perfectly clean, spray with Meguiars Hyper Dressing or any other water based dressing. Let sit for a few minutes then either blow them dry with a forced air or compressed air tool. You can also use a microfiber towel to do this.

I would not use Solution Finish on rubber mats because that product is simply too expensive to waste on this. A set of 4 mats costs something like 25$... i am not gonna use 25$ of products on them to try to restore them.
