Amazed at swirled cars at Barrett Jackson

I have really enjoyed watching cars cross the block at the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale this week. (My family thinks that I am crazy.) I am amazed at the condition of some of the cars up for auction. Some appears so swirled up that it blows me away. Do people think that swirls equate to a fine detail? That said, there are other cars that look like Mike "the Master" Phillips prepped them himself. They look absolutely stunning. They are so incredibly well done. They should list who does the prep work. It is very impressive. This forum has made me such a paint prep snob. Phil

Most people don't notice or care. I can understand leaving the paint as is on older, original paint but the custom cars that are swirled out bug me

Unhappy Re: Amazed at swirled cars at Barrett Jackson

There was this Charger, I think a 69', it was a purple color and my GOD was it hammered. I'm surprised that someone didn't grab the BJ detailing products and get after it.
I agree about how bad the cars were but it didn't matter because at the end we got to see the SOLD sign put on it (I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about!)

Was there last night; while some looked bad many looked pretty decent...some were perfect, most around 70-80%.

Fun stuff although it was a little chilly later at night. Got a ride in a Hellcat and a GS Vette, short but they were really pounding and braking hard.

Got a chance to use a BOSS 21 in the Griots tent, really prefer the progressive trigger v. Rupes slow start. Did not feel quite as smooth as Rupes but never used Rupes 21, only 15, so maybe extra throw made it feel like that.

    Interesting.

I've been to car shows and it is the same, from very swirled to show-car quality paint. Makes me feel a little proud that as a non-pro I could actually do better.

This hobby is an amalgamation of many
tastes, preferences and ideas on what
constitutes an original, a restoration, and
    everything in between—including those
vehicles that go by the moniker “Survivor”.

    “Survivor”:
-Invocation of the principal that the vehicle
must remain exactly as it left the factory,
regardless of its current age and condition.

-Any original parts that fail should be
removed and rebuilt exactly as original.

    -Leave the external patina alone.
