Iron X Paste and Wheel Barrels

Will Iron X paste take most of the black caked off brake dust off of the wheel barrels of a 10 year old car? I used Iron X spray today and it took a good bit off but I think the paste would be more powerful. I still have a good bit of caked on dust left. Today I used a Daytona Wheel Brush and Iron X Spray.

The paste is definitely stronger. Is the wheel off the car? If so then you can hit it with something more substantial than the daytona. If you have to do it without removing the wheel then maybe move the car so the paste can sit on the flat part of the barrel for a longer time before you scrub.

I think there was a recent post about the paste being used to clean a patch on the barrel that wasn't coming off with anything else. That wheel was off the car though.

My wheel is on the car. Would optimum power clean at full strength do the trick also?

opc neat is strong but megs wheel brightener is probably what you need

Wheel Brightener looks like that is what I need. Too bad it only comes in the gallon though.

I know of a place that sells it in smaller quantities but it's in Canada

Yeah I hear the wheel brightener is some pretty nasty stuff though so I might just stick to the Iron X gel and see what that does. I will have to do this with the wheels on the car but the rotors are pretty small so I should be OK.

The fronts of the wheels are clean? Take the wheels off the car, wax the fronts, flip them face down, and spray the barrels with some OTC All-Finish Wheel Cleaner. Agitate and rinse. Repeat. Agitate and rinse. Repeat as necessary until you get the bulk of the nasty stuff off. Then use your good stuff. With all that brake dust, it's not like the OTC stuff is going to be touching your wheels' finish. Let it do the dirty work. Waxed wheel faces should be more than well protected from the brief exposure to the all-finish wheel cleaner. Just don't leave on longer than the instructions state. And agitation is key. Rinse backs and fronts well between applications.

My $0.02 cents. I don't doubt that IronX would work well, but you might be using a lot of that stuff to remove layer after layer after layer of brake dust from the barrels.

Why can't you take the wheels off the car?

Can you at least get the car raised so you can work from behind? Ramps or Jack it up, and make sure you have jackstands underneath before you get under the car, for safety.
