Topping a Glass/ceramic coat with aquapel
Any chemist or experts please respond and let me know your thoughts. I have been considering topping a glass/ceramic coating with aquapel in an attempt to use as a top coat for water beading and experimentation. With coatings stealing the show lately and coating toppers or “top coats” being offered by each company now for extreme hydro/beading specific top coats have grabbed my attention. I believe “top coats” are based not on SIO2 but based on fluorine or fluoride and bond to the the layer of ceramic/glass coating like CQuartz or Crystal lacquer that are SIO2 . I am trying to determine if aquapel being made of same family of polymers and its ability to bond to glass will it bond to sIO2
Aquapel is a interesting product that is far superior to rain X and chemically bond to yourwind shield I have been able to get 8 month durability from aquapel and it is crystal clear being that it is applied to your windshield and based on the same Flouride polymer that top coats may be made off I am going to attempt this soon topping a SIO2 coating with aquapel. Can aquapel function and replace top coats based on FLO based polymers am I on to anything? Or will my paint peel off. Could aquapel top a coating??? A top coating ranges in price and some are in and over the 100 dollar range . Aqupel is around $7 .

If this post is in the wrong section please move to the correct. I am new to the community. I would love to hear from Dr. G or Mike Phillips they have a lot of knowledge to offer.

•IMO:
1.) You may need to first find out, from
the Manufacturer, just how vulnerable
their SiO2 Coating is to a product that
consists of having between 90-100%
Naptha—a quite volatile solvent.
http://www.aquapel.com/PDF/MSDS-EN.pdf
{Food for thought:
What, if anything, may happen to a vehicle’s
paint-system if the SiO2 Coating would be
breached by the aforementioned Naptha?}
2.) I’d like to defer my talking points regarding
your beliefs pertaining to SiO2/Fluoropolymer
based Coating toppers to a later time.
3.) Applying toppers to Coatings is actionable.

If it does work, your numbers are way off. You can't cover a whole car with a tube of Aquapel and McKees is less than 10 bucks to do an entire car.

The solvents seem to be very strong in aquapel and smell like a acetone type. Send me PM about numbers and I can chat about the aquapel.

Heck, some of Gyeons pro-only offerings are essentially a base and a topcoat...likely stronger than a standard SiO2 topper but still...same with Pearl Nano.
Not saying it's good or bad, simply that it 'is'.
With something like Cquartz I wouldn't even consider using it without a topper; it's got poor tactile characteristics on its own.
As far as a window coating on paint, that's too far out there for even I to consider. Which doesn't necessarily make it a bad idea either.

Thanks for data sheet. Yes it will have to be tested on spare Hood not daily driver.

Like above the problem with it is you get so little for that 7 bucks it would cost more than overcoat or gliss.
It’s good thinking but I don’t think it would be cost effective

2 aquapel at least 3 most likely to cover. Agreed 7 dollars would not cover cost of doing a whole car
