Removing wiper marks from a windshield

    Hey guys,

someone just contacted me to remove wiper scratches on his windshield. I have never done it before and I need to know a few things before I can accept the job.

First, how long does it usually take?

    What is the best method?

I have ceriglass polish, and I have a glass 5 inch pad. I use used it before to polish windows but not to remove scratches in glass.

I videos I have seen, people are all using 3 inch drill attachements to do the work. I am guessing it goes much faster that way and you also affect less area which is good. Can it be done effectivelly with a 5 inch pad on a DA or should I go the 3 inch route as well?

Re: Removing wiper marks from a windshield

I had one where a fluorescent light fixture fell on the car. Scratched the rear glass and the trunk. Glass scratch was about a foot long and I would wager much deeper than your wiper marks. The glass took less than a half hour, but cleaning up required a full wash and had to spend extra time in the trunk jamb cleaning up. Add time for a full wash and extra time cleaning the front cowl.

I used ceriglass and the 3" carpro glass pads on a flex kompakt rotary.

I would also add a special disclaimer for the front glass, it is essentially a lens and if you change the thickness too much, it can distort the view; you should not be liable for that. I'd sell it as: the view is already impaired, this may fix it, but could distort the view in a different way than it is now. In that case, they would need a new piece of glass, which they would have needed anyway.

Ok thanks. So half hour for a foot of scratches. Exactly what I needed to know.

I know about the cleanup, I have seen a few videos of the process and it's pretty dirty work

All the vids I saw were using Cerium Oxide paste though, so Ceriglass is probably cleaner to work with. I never had a big mess when using it to polish windows. But never removed scratches so it might be different.

    Thanks again.

How did the job turn out? I have the same situation(of varying degrees) on all of my vehicles.
