using 6 inch backing plate on rupes 15

so, i am going to pick up "rupes big foot 15 mark 2" in an addition to my FLEX 3401 .
i plan to use the machine for covering large areas and curvy areas. i know that the 21 is better on large areas but i can buy only one machine...

my question is: can i use the 6 inch plate on the big foot 15 and if i can,how it will affect the balance of the machine?
the ability for using 6 inch plate in an addition for the standard 5 inch is very important to me.

another question is how do you compare the 15 mark 2 for the new free spinning FLEX?

    thank you.

If you want to have a two plate option you may want to consider the G21. I have it and run both 6" and 5" bp's on it. I have the first gen Rupes 15 and I know on it you can't run a larger plate, don't know on the newer MKII's if that's the case. Seems someone else started a thread on that recently, you may want to try searching for it.

If you plan on covering large areas why get a 15 with a 6" bp? Why not just get a 21 then? It has more cut than the 15 and covers the large areas you intend using it on better.

The 21 Mark II will handle curves and contours just fine, but aside from that putting a larger pad/plate combo onto the LHR15 will cause pad stall for other reasons. The eccentric is balanced to offset a 125mm backing plate and 150mm pad. Adding the 150mm backing plate with 180mm pad adds mass/weight and will increase the likelihood of pad rotation stall.

If you want a larger pad go with the 21mm tool as the best option.

Re: using 6 inch backing plate on rupes 15

What about the other way around? Using 5 inch plate on the 21? I am trying to avoid buying 2 machines in order to use my medium size pads and my big pads just like my Flex 3401 can do...
Can you say that the 21 can handle curves in the same or close to the efficiency the 15 can?

I find these tools to not be 1 size fits all but highly specialized instrument of paint correction
