Re: Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer - Review and How-to

I had some PPE in the garage, so I decided to try it with Griot's ROP on my 07 z06. I washed, clayed, washed before the PPE.

Here's what the white pad looked like after I finished. I washed, clayed, then washed before the PPE. For some reason, the pad looks more gray in the picture compared to in person.

Re: Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer - Review and How-to

After washing and claying car, is it advisable to use WG Paint Work Polish Enhancer prior to applying:

    Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0
    Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0
    Pinnacle Souverän Carnauba Paste Wax

I previously applied the above products with a Meguiars Dual Action 6 Inch Polisher G110v2 and need to know if the above list of products needs to be removed prior to doing another multi-step detail...

    Hello,

Paintwork Polish Enhancer is to be used when the car has little to no swirls. I see you want to use the Total Swirl Remover and Finishing Glaze. The PPE is an unnecessary step if you are doing paint correction. However, after you have corrected the paint, whenever you want to do a detail again in a couple of months on your car and if the swirls aren't bad or non existant you can use the PPE and then top with your sealant or wax.

    This is correct.

If you're using the Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover it's going to more than do anything you could do with the PPE even if applied by hand. See this thread,

    Removing Scratches By Hand

Choosing and using the right polish can be confusing because there are a lot of products on the market in general but the Paintwork Polish Enhancer is a light paint cleaner for primarily prepping paint in good to excellent shape for application of wax or sealant.

    So you would,

    • Wash
    • Clay (if needed)
    • PPE
    • Wax or Sealant

As soon as you stepped up to the TSR and the FG, you no longer need the PPE as the multi-step approach will remove swirls and polish the paint to a high gloss perfectly preparing it for wax or sealant.

A multi-step process with the above would look like this,

    Wash
    Clay (if needed)
    TSR
    FG
    Wax or Sealant

Tagging onto an old review is okay, but usually it's better to start your very own dedicated thread for you detailing project.

    To your question...

if you want to remove any previously applied wax or sealant before using an abrasive polish then "yes" you could use the Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer first and it will effectively remove any wax or sealant still on the paint. Not so much by mechanical action but because any coating you've left behind is really thin to start with plus wear-n-tear will remove wax and paint sealants over time.

If it were me... I would wash and clay as needed and then start right in with the Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover.

If it's staring enough to remove swirls and scratches out of a clear coat finish then it's strong enough to remove any micro, or sub-micron layer of wax off the paint.

    Does that answer your question?

Just want to make sure I'm reading your post correctly.

    Mike

    Thanks for the advice!

    My basic newbie question was...

When I go to do another multi-step detail this fall do I need to remove/strip everything previously applied? Sounds like the answer is No and the TSR will remove previous applications.

Re: Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer - Review and How-to

    Great article..... I live in Michigan and normally use the Wolfgang trio every 4 to 6 months. After reading throughout the forum, I understand the WPPE "is not" needed if using WTSR due to it removing the old wax/sealant. With that being said, I do have a couple questions;
    1) If no swirls are present when ready to re-apply sealant, wouldn't it be better to use WPPE instead of TSR? It seems that it would be less wearing on the clear coat.
    2) If the answer is yes to the above, would the following be the correct procedure?

    a) Wash/Dry
    b) Clay/Rinse (if needed)
    c) WPPE
    d) WFG (???)
    e) WDGPS

As always, thanks for all your help and suggestions. Ray
