2016 CX5: Dangerously Paper Thin Factory Paint!!

FYI, 2009 and up newer Mazdas, no longer have a prImer layer. They have been combining basecoat and primer into one. It chips real easy and has extra orange peel. The first time I took readings on my Mazda I nearly had a heart attack. My readings were closer 110-125um.

Can confirm about paper thin paint AND glass thickness. A brand new Mz3 already have millions paint chips. A windshield looks like sand blasted. Also, steel is thinnest in the world, probably a little bit thicker than four times folded wrapping foil. The paint can be scratched by flying birds' dropping, you think I'm kidding?! That is how I ended up with PBWBH glaze (which didn't work applied by hand).

Weird, I never did a thickness reading on my 2010 Mazdaspeed3 but I put over 102,000 on the car and I never had an issue with stone chips or a windshield that looked like it was sandblasted. I drive 62 miles a day for work (85% highway) and travel to southern Indiana from Detroit once a month for work. My paint looked awesome!

What's LATA that you used on the tires? Also how do you compare CQ and CQF? I'm bummed I can't buy CQF.

LATA is La's Totally Awesome APC (the yellow one)(I will be trying out their orange one next). It's available at dollar stores; check your area. Heck, we even have them here in Canada now!!

Maybe the paint is synonymous with single stage toilet paper....if you push too hard, you're in poop!!

Well said , I will call it one-ply paint and steel. A quick guglee search will reveal sorrows of new mazdas metal, glass and paint thickness.
