DP Tire Coating vs Tuf Shine Tire Clearcoat

New Michelin tires were purchased for this 2000 Camry around the end of December 2014. This was a good opportunity to compare the two coatings - DP Tire Coating & Tuf Shine Tire Clearcoat.

After thoroughly cleaning the tires, two coats of DP Tire Coating were placed on the passenger side tires and two coats of Tuf Shine Tire Coating were placed on the driver side tires on January 5, 2015. I only had a couple good pictures of the initial application.

Here's two coats of DP Tire Coating - Front passenger side.

Here's two coats of Tuf Shine Tire Coating - Front driver side.

    6 Week Update - Feb 16, 2015

The car is normally parked in a carport in West Palm Beach, FL most of the time but daily driven within a few miles from the house.

During the 6 weeks, the car has been rained on a couple of times and been driven on wet roads a few times.

The tires have been washed about 3 times during the 6 weeks with car wash soap (Griots Garage Brilliant Finish Car Wash) and a black micro-chenille wash mitt. Light scrubbing with the wash mitt was used each time and then rinsed with water and dried.

Here's what the tires look like after 6 weeks:

This is the side with the DP Tire Coating.

Front passenger side with DP Tire Coating - after 6 weeks.

Front passenger side with DP Tire Coating - initial application.

Rear passenger side with DP Tire Coating - after 6 weeks

Car was turned around to get the same exposure to the Sun.

This is the side with TS Tire Coating.

Front driver side with TS Tire Coating - after 6 weeks.

Front driver side with TS Tire Coating - initial application.

Rear driver side with TS Tire Coating - after 6 weeks.

Conclusion - Some of the initial gloss was lost but both sides look about the same after 6 weeks. I was hoping for a little more gloss after just 6 weeks. In fact, the tires that were on this car previously had TS Tire Coating on them and they were glossier than these after a longer period of time.

I would attribute the loss of the gloss of these new tires mainly due to absorption of the dressing from the new rubber. It's a good idea to apply more coats to a brand new tire.

I will be applying an additional coat or two on the tires and will continue to give updates.

They seem to have the same level of gloss now, it's a little harder to tell on the initial pictures, they look about the same. Did you feel that one was glossier at the time of application, or were they about the same?

It seems like there is not much difference between these products.

That was what I expected, but Frank in another review of his noted some differences, as did another member:

I've been waiting for Tufshine to wear off on my mustang so I can apply the DP coating. Thanks for the review Frank!

New DP Tire Cleaner & Coating Review - Frank's review

    DP Tire Cleaner & Coating
These were my initial observations from my 1st post on new tires for a 2003 Toyota Sienna Van (link above) without doing a side by side comparison of the two coatings:

Taken from my review above..."The DP Tire Coating seemed to spread a little better and more uniformly than the Tuf Shine Tire Coating. Also seems to be a little shinier. I'm interested to see the longevity."

When applying the two coatings to the new tires on the 2000 Camry I didn't pay too much attention to the application process and I really didn't notice much of a difference since I was more interested in the longevity of the DP Tire Coating.

After applying the two coatings (DP & TS) to the new tires on the 2000 Camry, I would say that the initial gloss on both coatings was very similar.

To me, on these new Michelin tires, it was about the same.
