BMW M5 -Carolina Auto Image
Customer contacted me on a referral from another detailer in another state. He wanted to have his M5 detailed inside and out.
Knowing that I had already detailed the X5 earlier in the year in the same color, I knew that I could knock this one out.
Here's what was used:
Wheels - P21s Wheel Cleaner
Various brushes.
Tires - P21s Total Auto Wash
Wheel wells used the same with a wash mitt.
Body work:
Foam lance with Auto Finesse Avalanche Snow foam
Two Bucket method using a CarPro Micro fiber madness mitt and CarPro reset, plus small boar's hair brush with AF Citrus Power for hard to get to areas around badges. Notice that I did not use any stripping cleaner. I knew that I was going to be polishing the car, so I did not feel it was necessary.
Clayed with CarPro clay towel.
Paint work: Rupes 15 with Rupes Green and Yellow pad, Rupes 75 Air with Megs MF finishing pads, Rupes Green and yellow pads, Harbor Freight 2" DA with small MF pads and polishing pads.
Megs FG400, Sonax 4/6 Perfect Finish, Carpro Reflect
Upon Arrival:
Left Over Wax
Some Process:
Wheels:
Jacked up the car to get to the wheels better. Big Rotors!
Before:
After:
BigFoot, Green Pad and FG400 (Killer Combo)
Tailight Before, light swirls
Tailight After:
New Favorite tool:
Finals:
Inside the shop final
This what I would consider a modified one step. What I mean by that is that for the majority of the whole car, Sonax 4/6 would have gotten the wash induced marring out and left a seriously adequate finish and I used it for over 75-80% of the car. The modified part was on the horizontal sections, hood, trunk lid, and the top. These are the show piece areas, so I took a bit more time and used FG400 on the green pad to not cut really heavy, but to get rid of the worst areas of wash induced marring and swirls. I followed that with the yellow pad and Sonax 4/6, then that with a final finish pad and CarPro Reflect to really get the paint to be a mirror.
The paint was sealed with Sonax Polymer Netshield and then the hood, trunk, top, front and rear fenders and then the upper part of the doors received a layer or P21s Concours like wax, which really set the finish off.
Enjoy

Re: BMW M5 -Carolina Auto Image
Is Rupes making that pneumatic for 3M or is 3M making it for Rupes?
I used the 3M version down at Meguiar's HQ.
It is identical, right down to the "15" on the throttle.
They had even installed a Rupes inline air regulator on it

Rupes made them for 3M, it is a Rupes machine re-branded. I got mine with the regulator valve from Kevin Brown and I love it. I have the electric version as well, and this one is probably over half the weight.
Very slick little machine.
Mike, thanks buddy, this one just made me smile more and more as I went around it.
noslef: To each his own, I did not think I liked them at first, but as the weekend went on, I started to like them more and more. They look better in person.
The customer has already told some bimmer buddies of his, so this is hopefully not the last one.
