This customer had booked his truck for me to do a few months ago. I was looking forward to doing it yet was also intimidated by its immense size. Like the other vehicle I did for them, the coating of choice was CQF. Their Camaro is wearing it and they are immensely pleased with its performance.
Here it is as it arrived:
As usual I started with the wheels and tires. The wheel barrels were cleaned with Tarminator and then with Zep Citrus while the faces were done with the ZC. The wells were cleaned with LATA and the tires with Zep 505. The barrels as well as the wheel wells themselves were then shot with CarPro Hydro to help keep them clean without removing them. I got to show him the Hydro in action when he came back with the touch up paint.
The truck was then hand washed with DG 901. That was followed by a hand wash with IronX paste. I then brought it inside to clay with my Speedy Prep towel. It barely fit in my garage and I HAD to have it be in deep enough to close the door...you'll see why in a minute.
It was very hot out this weekend. This was the temp inside my garage.
Enough of that nonsense!! As I've always said "Both the products AND the operator work better in cooler temps". Here is what the garage was eventually cooled down to:
Anyway, once inside I could inspect the paint more closely. The finish was strange along the edge of the driver's door (sorry for the blurry pic):
The monstrous hood was going to need some TLC to get rid of these swirls!
The right top side of the tailgate had a nasty gouge that I filled afterward:
The 3 pane rear window was badly water marked. I used Danese Water mark remover by hand with a foam applicator. It did a pretty good job. The glass was coated with CQF later on.
The paint was corrected with a 2 stage approach using Megs 105 + TB wool + Flex 3401 followed by M205 + white B/S + Flex. Eraser was used afterward. The chrome was polished with a yellow B/S + M205. The trim was coated with DLux. The wheels, paint, head and tail lights and chrome were all double coated with CQF as well as all the glass except the windshield. It got Fly By 30 X2. The tires were shot via air gun with Opti Bond.
