1966 Mustang, 12 hour turn around.

We were contacted by a customer that had a 1966 Mustang he had restored and was going to surprise his brother with on his wedding day. He was scheduled to drop it off on wednesday and pick it up Saturday morning on the way to the wedding.

On his way to the shop Wednesday, the car overheated and had to be towed back to the mechanic.

We got the car in friday evening around 4pm, and it was due Saturday at noon. I cannot be any more proud of my team for tacking this. The whole care got we sanded, and corrected. The engine bay was a greasy mess. Luckily the interior was pretty straight forward.

So without waisting any more time…

The car was pretty swirled up. The horizontal surfaces looked like they were repainted but never wet sanded. Barely any orange peel on the car, but there was a sort of micro dimpling, almost like sand paper. The horizontal surfaces were the worst.

Someone had buffed this paint and had done a poor job.

The engine bay was a mess

    Under the hood

Air cleaner cover was in bad shape. We took some sand paper and polish to it to clean it up as best we could.

    Claying

Here is a test spot we ran on the hood

After a gentle and precise wet sanding on the hood.

    Exhaust!

Hope you all enjoyed! We loved working on this car. The owner was about as excited as one could be. We actually got the work done ahead of deadline.

Your pictures are amazing. What lens are you using for those close ups?

    Funny you mention close up…

I took this late friday night. Its a close up of the microfiber pad we were using to remove sanding marks.

This was taken with a 105mm macro.

Other lenses used in this photo set are 17-35mm, 24-70mm, 50mm, and a 70-200mm. All f/2.8. All on full frame camera.

Thank you. It really was a pleasure to work on an old car like this. The way the panels feel, the way the doors shut, classics are awesome!
