8 years old..no way! (2005 Jetta GLI)

The owner of this Jetta approached me about getting his car done and brought it to me to see. We discussed his options and he wanted the best for it, so it was going to be coated with Finest. This was going to be a wheels-off detail, but, he ended up needed to do some work to the calipers so he's going to bring it back for round 2..namely the wheels.

The big issue for this car was chips. This was the most chips I had seen on a car. I didn't shoot them as it would have depressed me, LOL. The owner is very, very proud of his car and was nervous and apprehensive when he dropped it off. I found out later he got badly burned by a detailer in Toronto so he wasn't taking things at face value. Hopefully I've restored his faith in our profession. He was apologetic for bringing it so dirty, but I told him not to clean it before anyway. Here it is:

First up was the wheels.

Faces & Barrels were cleaned with Tarminator followed by Zep Citrus. The tires were cleaned with Zep 505 and the wells with LATA. I usually take an hour to do this step. This car took 20 minutes longer!

Next up was to foam wash and allow that to dwell while seams, emblems, etc were attended to.





That was followed with a hand wash with DG 901. That was followed with another wash of IX pasted with a grout sponge to help remove surface contamination. After that it was brought inside and clayed with the CarPro foam clay block. The tires, wheels, wells and seams were blown dry with the Master Blaster.

For correcting the defects, I chose TB black wool + M100 + 3401. In some cases (deep,stubborn scratches), I used the Dyna with the TB wool (a different one) and Menz PG. The polishing stage was done with M205 + white T/B pad + 3401. The surface was then cleaned via 3401 + DG SC + red B/S pad. The chip repair came at this point as I did not want to risk so many of them being removed at the polishing stage (and I knew they would with this hard paint). An ERASER wipe down was done at the end to remove any dust, etc. Head and tail lights were also treated to the same steps. The tail pipe was hand polished with M205 and a mf and coated as well.

The windshield was then coated with CP Fly-By-30 (2 coats).
The wheels weren't touched at this time. I'm looking forward to doing them in a few weeks.
The headlights, tail lights glass (except windshield) and paint all got 2 coats of CQF followed by an IR light cure.

I also did some work on the interior. I really like the interior of this car. RECARO seats with GLI inserts on them. They are as comfortable as they are attractive. I steam cleaned the seats and carpeting. The front seats were then treated to DG 341 via foam applicator. That will sure help protect them!


All done at 15 hours.

For the vast majority of them, I use a pointy toothpick and use very little paint. You want it to "wick" down into the chip, not place a paint "blob" on top of it. I did a comprehensive thread here filling in a key vandalism repair:
