First Time Detail - 99 Chevrolet Silverado

Hey guys, just wanted to share the detail I finished yesterday. It took FOREVER (to me, anways) but it was well worth it. I got some before shots, but they didn't turn out too great since I was in a shop with some crappy lighting. I had to take the coal miner approach and wear a headlight to check my progress. I did include a dull photo of the swirls and general look of the paint close up (camera phone :/)

I washed and dried the truck and put it in the shop and went to work. I've always used the traditional detailing clay, but I wanted to try something different this time, so I bought one of those Nanoskin Autoscrub Sponges from Autogeek. I like it!

After that I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound with an orange pad with the DA and did a test spot, finishing that part with polish. Everything looked great so I went ahead with the rest of the truck.

Polished with Duragloss 501, then went with the bonding agent and DG 105. Then topped with DG 111. I think it turned out great!

All in all, it took about 7-8 hours for the complete detail. I got about 90% of the swirls out. I didn't try too hard to get all of them out (its a daily), and I knew better than to waste time messing with the deeper scratches. I just wish I could get rid of the orange peel!! I haven't grabbed enough confidence off the shelf to try wetsanding, and probably won't :P

On another note, I've never used a DA before yesterday. There is nothing to it! Its incredibly easy and felt pretty natural.

I just wanted to say to the people who haven't tried detailing with a DA but are thinking about it, its definitely worth it. It's really easy to use and gets the results you're wanting very quickly.
