Mike preps Shon's BMW for OC2.0

I finally was able to arrange for Shon’s car to come in for an Opti-Coat job after doing a few vehicles for his friend due to some scheduling conflicts between Shon, his friend, and I.

This was one that had me tied up before: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/63924-white-645ci-vs-d151.html

Now that I had Shon’s car it was time for the car to receive some of my TLC. Overall the car wasn’t in very bad shape. Just the typical swirls, water spots, etc. There was a few nasty water spots on the hood and those came up with a bit more finessing. This job took roughly 8 hours from start to finish.
Thanks for bringing in the car Shon and keep the referrals coming. J

    Exterior

    Wheels
    · Wheels cleaned with Wolfgang Uber Wheel Cleaner, Daytona Speed Master, and Mothers wheel brush
    · Tires scrubbed with Purple Power degreaser and Mothers tire brush
    · Wheel wells scrubbed with Purple Power and Mothers wheel well brush

    Wash
    · Foam with Gilmour foam gun and CarPro Snow Foam
    · Wash with 2BM and Meguiar’s Super Soap and Meguiar’s wash media
    · Thorough rinse down to remove all soap residues
    · Cracks and crevices blown out with leaf blower
    · Remaining water dried with Green Cobra Ultimate Guzzler

    Correction
    · Clayed with Meguiar’s blue Professional Clay and Last touch Detailer
    · Correction/Polish with 3401, Orange Hybrid Pad, and FG400 speed 3 and 6-8 passes
    · Polish residue removed with Cobra Miracle towels

    Coating prep and Coating
    · Wipe down with Eraser and Cobra Lavender Deluxe towels
    · Coated with Opti-Coat 2.0

    Miscellaneous
    · Door sills with V07
    · Wheels with V07
    · Exhaust wiped with V07
    · Tires dressed with Meguiar’s Endurance tire Gel
    · Windows cleaned with Stoners Aerosol Spray
    · Pictures taken with Nikon D3200

Here are a few before shots of the car.

With the wheels being Powder Coated the same color as the car it makes it harder to see the typical brake dust so commonly found on BMW's.

    Uber Wheel cleaner applied

Theres the action we are looking for.

Now we can see the true color of the wheel.

    Foam time!

My cars outside providing supervision. Lol

    Some 50/50 correction shots.

    Puttin in work.

    Now for the after shots...

    And some outside shots

    Comments and Critique welcome.

    Stunning, Mike!!!

The paint looked more hazy than severe swirling?

1-step with a compound and heavy cutting pad! Hard paint, eh?

Amazing work Mike! The BMW looks so sick and you made it even better. The outside shots are looking dripping wet.

    Thanks Mark!!!

There was a fair bit of Haziness in the paint along with the swirling.

This paint was on the hard side. My first attempt with the blue hybrid pad wasn't giving the correction I was after. After jumping to the orange pad I was getting my desired correction results and after giving it 6-8 section passes I was also getting some nice finishing ability with the setup.

Awesome work as always Mike, you're extremely talented. Uber bummed I couldn't make it over for this one Doing good with your new D3200 as well! You've got great shots.

Mike, do you ever have any troubles with the OG/OC bonding when using Eraser as wipedown?

I have heard a few people say the anti-static properties may hinder bonding but have seen many many more people using it with good results.

    BTW great work!

Beautiful job on a beautiful car as usual Mike. Nice!!

I see your writeup states the exhaust was protected with V7 - and guessing you may have done the original polish. Interested in what was used there.
