    63 Austin Healey 3000 Detailed

I had the pleasure of detailing this 1963 Austin Healey 3000. This customer also owns the 87 Porsche Carrera that is in my avatar (detailed a few weeks ago). He is taking this car to Nantucket for the weekend and the car will be in a parade. He wanted it looking it's best.

    Equipment Used
Two Bucket System with Grit Guards
    Sheep Skin Wash Mitt
    Various MF's
PC7424xp to apply wax via red LC CCS flat pad
Various Brushes - daytona wheel brush, vent brushes, etc
    Various Applicator pads
    2.5hp Shop Vac

    Product Used
    ONR - two bucket method
DP Rinseless Wash diluted to clay lube strength
    Griots Garage Clay
    Pinnacle XMT 180 Wax
    P21S Metal Polish
    DP Krystal Vision Glass Cleaner
    1Z Cockpit Premium
    303 Aerospace
    Lexol Leather Cleaner
    Lexol Leather Conditioner
    RaggTopp Fabric/Vinyl Cleaner
    RaggTopp Fabric/Vinyl Protectant
    Wheel Armour
    WG Black Diamond Tire Gel
    Chemical Guys GreenClean

The customer wanted me to pick up the car for him and take it to my house. Typically I do not do this but I could not turn down the opportunity to drive this little car. It's been about 5 years since I've had to drive a stick and it took me a few minutes to get use to it again but it's like riding a bike!

The car was not in bad shape. Some bugs on the front, some tire dressing sling that was on the sides, and the metal all needed to be polished.

Here is the car as it arrived.

And the Afters - I must say that this was a fun car to detail except for the spoke wheels. My fingers were killing me by the time I was done with the wheels. I apologize for the lack of definition in the pics and no sun. It was setting and I was trying to get some pics before it was completely gone.

    Thanks for reading!

That's pretty awesome Jason. The car looks great and I'm sure the owner was really pleased.

It looks like you are making the right connections judging by the work you have been posting. Congratulations on that. I can only hope to do the same.

Thanks! I'm hoping to make a few more of these types of connections. I love working on classic cars.

Well, he certainly brought it to the right place!!

Jason, I agree with you, that would be a neat car to detail. Do you know if it was a single stage paint like the original? It looks to be in terrific shape for almost 50 years old.

Thanks for doing such a nice writeup and for the great photos!!

And for doing such a great job of course!!

I believe it was single stage paint, but not the original paint job. From the looks of it at least it looks like it had been repainted. Overall though the car is in great shape for being 50 years old. It's garage kept and rarely goes out.

    And thanks!

Oh my!!! I envy you so much! I have never driven an Austin, jut a few MGs and Fiats

The car looks really nice. You should ask the owner if he got any pics from the parade, and post them up!!

    LOL well thanks!

I'll have to go down to his house and see. Might be some time though, I'm completely swamped right now.

With that 6 cyl engine along with the 'lectric over-drive (in 2nd thru 4th gear)...they will get your attention!
