2019 Kia Sportage - First Wash In 8 Months
My detailing pursuits are usually directed towards the 7 cars in my care, some mine and some of family members. From time to time, I do a few paid details outside of my normal employment, it's a nice side job that helps to use up my excess of products!
I'm supposed to be on leave, but you don't say no to the boss's daughter.
I did this Kia Sportage in April this year and it hasn't been washed since. While she loves the car, it's nothing more than a car. I get that, I'm sure there are thousands of everyday items that get used everyday that are treated the same. At the end of the day, it's a benefit to me as I get paid to do it for her.
The Pacific Blue paint was dulled by baked on road film and bugs, the wheels matte rather than shiny.
Today was predicted to reach 102 degrees, so the rush was on to get started on the wash ASAP and then move under cover before the sun started to roast me and the car.
I smashed the wheels and tyres with undiluted Brake Buster, the rubber turned brown almost instantly.
I then pre-foamed the car to help loosen as much crud as possible prior to the contact wash, then rinsing and re-foaming for the contact wash. I treated the windscreen, wing mirrors and front bumper with CarPro Bug-Out.
On a car like this, after I have rinsed the car I will also rinse out the door jambs and in today's case, the engine bay as well. This is what greeted me when I opened the hood -
Once having dealt with the compost heap, and again thoroughly rinsed, I applied Hydr02 to the entire vehicle.
From here I moved inside, blew down and dried with Bead Maker and the door jambs were wiped over with ONR.
Despite being "clean", the black plastic wheel arch and sill trims were still marked up, perfect job for Meguiar's M39.
Before (this section wasn't as bad as other sections of the car) -
After, having applied M39 to a beater towel and wiped over with moderate pressure. The images don't accurately depict the difference M39 made to these trims -
I then followed up with some Mothers Naturally Black to add some depth to their appearance. This is the first time I have used this product and it's certainly an easy way to deal with these trims, time is money right? -
Now onto the interior! Starting with the mats, using the Tornador to remove as much debris as possible before misting with Paint Gloss and running the vac over to finish off.
Then onto the trunk carpet...............ahhhh now I remember this car! This carpet is the cheapest, nastiest material I have ever cleaned, it just wont let go of anything. I ended up using the Tornador here as well, along with Paint Gloss and the Fur-Eel attachment. It came up decent, although not perfect.
The cabin cleaned up easily, the worst was the drivers foot-well. Again, Paint Gloss to help the process.
I used APC in a couple of grotty sections, the top of door trims are always a place that seems to accumulate grime. I then followed up with Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer over the various cabin plastics and screens. Glass was cleaned with P&S True Vue, love that stuff.
Tyres dressed with NV Onyx and the cabin spritzed with Angelwax Eden, and the job was done!
Finished and parked out of the sun so the owner could simply drive away in comfort -

Maybe I missed it....did you do any decontamination on the paint? If so, what did you use? What did you use for the protection on the paint?

How do you like those roller type water hose guides?
I had the plain ones without rollers and they were not very effective

They work but I end up not using them more often then I use them. Just one more thing to bring out and put away later and we try to get it done without wasting a lot of time. But they are nice to prevent hose from getting caught under the tire.
