    Detailed: 1970 Camaro Z28 REDSLED

Owner of this car heard of my work through other coworkers and reached out to me on getting his car ready for the show season this year. Was recently painted within the last year with a single stage paint job. That was news to him as he purchased the car after it was painted. After doing a test spot the pad came up red. Got out the ePTG and took measurements around the car. Was getting readings anywhere from high 400 to low 800 microns around the car. I would imagine there was a skim coat of bondo beneath to allow the body man to get the panels leveled and flat. Then covered with high build primer and blocked before laying down the red paint. Of course this is just speculation but I would imagine it the case as I haven't personally been able to lay down primer, color, and clear to anywhere near those high readings. The most I have laid down is a mid 300 range and that was with 3 coats primers, 3 coats color, and 4 of clear. The car was cut and buffed before I got to it as evidenced by sanding marks not completely removed in various isolated areas.

Armed with this information 100% correction was far from the goal as we wanted to leave as much paint on the surface while still getting it looking the way it should. Most of the sanding marks were reduced and almost eliminated. I erred on the side of caution and left some remnants behind as to not burn all the way through to the primer underneath. The car came out very well.

Compounded with XFE 15, Griots compound and polish, and finished off with Griots 3n1

    Nice work.

I love the car! Especially now that you've removed all the damage and given it a show car finish.

The owner is lucky to have someone that really knows what they are doing work on their car.

I bought one new in 1970 and waited about 6 months to get it.
Strikes delayed delivery of the car but it was well worth the wait.
They called them 1970-1/2. Brings back good memories,
driving around looking for drag races and listening to Led Zeppelin
    on an 8 track.
I see there were some mods. to the front bumpers and hood but
    would love to have it.

    Thanks Mike

This car sure is a looker. Now to get the owner up to speed on proper maintenance.

I'd say a change of pace from working on base/clear. Especially at the rate the color was coming off the pads as I brushed them out.

Thanks for the kind words Mike

    Looks great.

Usually those kind of paint readings on single stage paint means this was probably the second time it's been painted and was scuffed as opposed to stripped down to bare metal before repaint.

Beautiful car, was debating Split Bumper or Chevelle before I bought my Chevelle. Just found a better example bought woulda been happy with either.

Nice turn around and love those wheels. Looks like some early 90’s Boyd Coddingtons.

    Nice...Nice...Nice...

I love to see these old muscle car being restored. This Z28 was one of my hero cars when I was a kid. It went straight line pretty fast for that time period...just dont show the car a corner and you will be fine. LOL
