2003 BMW M5 Gets Corrected and Coated

So my friend Eric picked up a solid 2003 M5 in Dark Blue Metallic but it needed some love. In reviewing the packages and options, we decided upon my Option 3, Elite Enhancement because it was in need of compounding and polishing in order to get through the oxidation and swirls that were instilled while it lived over 100,000 miles in Florida.

You'll see in the pics that the hood was completely destroyed. The hood was repainted and the front fenders blended but in all honesty, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to save the hood from needing repainted.

Given he isn't going to daily the car he went with Gyeon's CanCoat SiO2 product. In terms of what was used:

• Washed
• Iron X
• Medium grade Nano Sponge
• Flex 3401 with Blue/Purple Wool Pads and CarPro Clear Cut for comounding
• Rupes Mille with Rupes White Fine Polishing pads paired with Gyeon Primer
• Gyeon CanCoat
• Solution Finish to restore Moldings and Trim
• McKee's Glass Coating

The car had swirls that went from medium to horrible.
















The hood looked like it was close to needing re-sprayed.











All the moldings and trim were faded badly too. I threw in a complete re-dying and sealing of them at no charge as there's no way this beauty could have gone home incomplete.

Cleaned it really good with solvent to remove any old waxes, etc, washed and cleaned it again during my typical prep cycle and then treated it with Solution Finish. Two coats. Great product.

I’m surprised you clayed the entire vehicle with just a clay sponge, it doesn’t feel too small for the job? I’m also surprised the headlights weren’t totally hazed up, they usually are on 2003 vehicles.

I probably should switch to a larger clay pad/mitt of some sort but honestly I can go over a vehicle pretty quick. They work great and I like the fact that they hold soapy water,e tc.

Headlight wise, these are in pretty good shape given the history of how they hold up. They actually could use a light sanding and re-polish as there's some road-rash on them but the new owner is a "car guy" and has it on his list to replace them eventually.

Heading out now to see if I can some pictures with a decent camera vs just my phone.
