    1986 Porsche Carrera

    Single stage shenanigans!
    1986 Porsche Carrera (all original)
    111,607 miles
Guards Red (single stage) black interior
3.2 liter air cooled engine, 5 speed manual

This client LOVES his Porsche!!! He drives is frequently and it is really in amazing shape (besides the paint, lol) for its age and mileage…as well as that it is all original!
The paint had the usual swirls, scratches, factory sanding marks, and scuffs. It was also very hazy and lifeless. It was left outside overnight one time and was parked near some sprinklers. It was covered in water spots. It also had some strange, on the surface, runs, drips, large areas of defects—almost like something was spilled or splashed onto the surface.

I stacked up a bunch of pads and mf towels and got ready to go to work! It looked like a murder scene in the shop from all the paint transfer onto the pads and towels! LOL
The shine and gloss were really amped up. Correction was good as well. I wanted to do more of a preservation and gloss amplification than a total correction. This being original paint and all…it can only be original once!!

It had some signs of paint strike through on some areas and edges from previous work. I didn’t want to risk the finish any more than I had to. The owner has also stated that he is going to keep this forever!

    The details:

    Waterless wash with McKee’s37 N914.
    Clayed with Griot’s medium mitt.
Dodo Born Slippery was the clay lube.
    Defelsko PTG.
    Scangrip lighting.
    Misc. MF towels.
    Flex 3401.
    Flex XFE15.
    Rupes iBrid.
    Autotriz nano polisher.
    Misc. Foam and MF pads.
    Megs 105.
    Megs 205.
    Menz PO85rd.
    Final wipedown-CarPro Eraser.
    LSP-McKee’s37 High Def Paint Sealant.
    Tire dressing: McKee’s37 high gloss.
    Metal polish: McKee’s37 metal polish.
    Blackfire glass cleaner.
    Metro vacuum.
    Pinnacle leather cleaner and conditioner.
    Adam’s trim coating.
    McKee’s37 wax remover.

    Thanks for reading/looking!

As soon as I read the title I knew this was going to be great. The paint was in pretty rough shape. Great work getting it looking better, as usual.

I absolutely love late 70s and 80s 911s. Collectors have pushed up prices to the point that they're not obtainable for most of us. Kicking myself for not buying one or two twenty years ago. These things were built to be driven and built to last. Air-cooled flat-six engines!

Awesome job on thin ss paint Scott. Did a 97 911 black which was a pain but very rewarding at the end.

Scott your work is always top notch. I am SURE you have a customer for life after this one! And how rewarding is it to bring single stage paint back from the dead! You certainly put the car into maintenance mode such that the owner can enjoy it knowing all the correction and protection you did.

Wow I love 911’s and this post only serves as further reminder why the cars are so beloved.

    Way to go Scott!

Love me some Guards Red pads! As outstanding as the paint work you did, I think I am as impressed with the blacks being returned to their glory. Pulls the whole package together.

Taking the preservationist approach indicates your true professionalism. Well done, my friend.
