    Coating Wooden Speedboat Trim

I had the opportunity a year ago January to compound, polish and coat a 1949 Shepherd mahogany speedboat. It had 12 coats of varnish but needed some TLC. Here's the link below, but the picture links no longer work, so here's a few pics of the boat job to get an idea:

Undeniably the Most Interesting Project I've Ever Worked On!

Here it is 10 years ago prior to restoration:

    A 50/50 shot:

    Same pieces all done:

So, now that you know the project, he had two more trim pieces he wanted polished to remove the swirls and coated. I used my rotary, one handed with a 3" foam pad + M100 followed by rotary, one handed using a 3" soft black foam pad + M205. They were then wiped down with Eraser and then coated with Feynlab Ceramic.

Here they are as they arrived:

    Here's everything before coating:

Lastly, here is how the wood looks after being coated with Feynlab. It played very well with the varnish.

    Thanks for looking!

Thank you! It was a very cool job b/c it was challenging working in unchartered waters in terms of working with varnish. It's fun to have something different every once in a while.

Richy, I remember the first time you posted the boat, but I didn’t remember the full view of the finished product. The boat looks like in just rolled out of the shipyard and delivered to the own.

Great job sir and have a great weekend.

Cool boat. That thing would never see water if I owned it, might scratch the darn thing.

Speed boat? I doubt it. It has no propeller on it.........

Seriously though, Very Cool Richy! Awesome post.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

Worth the risk to show it off!

Cool project, hard not to like the classic lines and beautiful craftsmanship for wood boats.

I had a guy call me this week asking how to wet sand a 1941 Chris-Craft Mahogany boat that is all varnish. I asked him to send me some pictures, sometimes these guys do and sometimes they don't.
