    1973 Porsche 914

I did a full detail on an old Porsche yesterday. The gentleman who owns it has had it for the past 30yrs. and it was my pleasure to work on it.

I started off by cleaning the wheels & tires with Megs D143 then gave it a full bucket wash outside while it was still cloudy ⛅️

Fully dried it then proceeded to claybar the hood to get a look at the level of contamination that was on the paint. As expected, not too bad but definitely worth giving it a quik clay.

I clayed the rest of the paint with a Speedy Prep Towel.

Here’s what it looked like after washing and claying.

Next I decided to do a test spots with a couple of different products.
1st up was McKee’s Jeweling Wax on a foam polishing pad using the HF DA. Great results, removed/filled in nearly all the minor swirls and left a superb finish on the paint.

On the other fender I used Meguiars D166 Ultra Finishing Wax. Identical results as far as my eyes could tell.

The only difference was the Meguiars left a much smoother finish, so I decided to go with the D166 and a Meguiars Burgundy Foam Cutting Pad for the vertical panels.

The horizontal panels had deeper swirls, so I went with McKee’s Fast Compound on a 7” LC Orbital Foam Polishing Pad using the Boss G21.

Swirls are gone and finished near perfect.

    Before/after of the trunklid.

Topped it off with sealant to give this garage queen long lasting protection and this thing was set. Here’s a few after shots.

Cool little car. Owner said it’s never looked better. 1973 Porsche 914 Thanks for reading.

Wish I would have bought one of these when they were going for next to nothing.

Very nice example, you brought it back to like new. Nice work!

That owner has done a nice job of caring for that car for 30 years.

    Looks great!

Amazing little car and very underappreciated. I'd love to toss one around a twisty back road some day just to see how a modest sports car from that era drives.

Is the Franklin Little League bat used as a wheel chock? Or are you in a sketchy neighborhood and protecting yourself from thugs

Judging by the homes, it doesn't look too bad of a place to raise a family.

Oh my... that's one of the nicest looking 914s I've seen in a long time. Great job.

The history of the 914 is interesting. It was sort-of a joint collaboration with VW that yielded the 914 and the VW Karman Ghia. For a very long time the 914 was considered by many to not be a "real" Porsche and they were very inexpensive. 914s in good condition are now collectible and quite expensive.

Nice work! Very well kept 914. The owner should be proud to show this one off.

Nice job man! Those are great little cars. Unfortunately my back would not like me after polishing one of them, so props to you!
