23 hours... 2007 Porsche Turbo 996 & its much needed attention

    Where do I start?

First, this is the 997. Not 996. My mistake !

Well......... coating 4 of my vehicles and 3 belonging to my parents as well as doing a number of corrections on friends & in-laws cars. Finally it came time to work on a car I’ve had my eye on for a while. A 2007 Porsche Turbo that my uncle owns. He’s a car nut too. This is his baby! (less then 8500 Miles)

Timing was perfect! I Sent the wife and kids away on vacation since the kids were off from school for the week. Which left me home alone with some time on my hands.

My uncle agreed to leave the car with me to work on in between my work schedule (60-70hr/5 days - work week)

Mind you, I do not do this for money, I do it because I enjoy taking something and making it look nicer then it already does. I don’t even work in any aspect of the car world. This is purely hobby and no, I wouldn’t accept a penny from my uncle.

He dropped the car off Sunday morning and that afternoon the family was on their way to a much warmer place. Then my fun started.

Please feel free to comment or make suggestions, I still love to learn and perfect my skills

Disclaimer: the condition of his vehicle is not a representation of the way he maintains his cars, it is due to an unfortunate incident that occurred at his home and not being able to garage his cars for the past two years due to the amount of construction going on. So this vehicle sat in the back of a yard with two car covers on it.

    Hopefully

6 months ago one of my kids pulled a little too close with their battery operated kids car to the rear bumper of my Rapide, with mirrors on it that look like cheese graters. They hit the car and left an 8 inch long mark about an inch high. At the time, the car was coated with 4 coats of a mix Regular and uk. The wife and kids disappeared when it happened. I closed the garage, sat on the floor and removed the coating. Scratches gone! The coating took the beating, not the clear. After that, I reapplied and added a few more coats to the car. This was just about the time I was going to give up on ceramic coating. I didn’t really think it was a benefit. Then this happened. I do not mind multiple layers for this reason.

Really nice video and great work. You sure did a really nice thing for your Uncle and I am sure he is forever grateful.

I just did a white 911 too - and the one thing that drives me CRAZY (and seems you had the same problem) -> the discoloration of the XPEL film on the front side of the rear fenders. It's so obvious on white 911's and after all that work, to see the "yellowed" film drives me so nuts especially because there is so much of it. Hard to see in this pic but you know what I mean :-).

    Again WONDERFUL job!!!!

Car looks great. Would be nice if you had a thickness reading before and after that many coats to prove if does or doesn’t build up. I’m impressed you got all that done in 23 hours by yourself.

    Nice work and video!

What is your thought to start with classic and then cquk? When layering cquarts combo most does the other way around. Cquk to get the hard shell and then classic tio2 for the extra shine.

Nice to help your uncle out and very generous. That Porsche will be protected for a long time and looks awesome.

I know exactly what you mean, it the yellowing didn’t stand out before the detail as much as it stands out now. He plans ok replace it this spring and thanks!
