Just to comment there's been about a half dozen new threads started on this forum with new members join so they can get help with restoring antique original single stage paint.
And in context - 99.9% of the population owns cars with clearcoats paint systems. Incredible. I wanted to take my original article on this topic and turn it into a how-to book and I've been told no one would buy it.
Look at these stats... my original article is closing in on a half million views.
Who are all these people looking at this article on how to restore single stage paint when everyone and their brother owns a car with a clearcoat finish?
Even the other articles on how to use #7 have a lot of views.
Anyway, great job as always Aaryn, thanks for taking the time get the before pictures, stop working, put down your buffer and take the during pictures and then the after pictures and then creating a write-up and sharing it on our forum to inspire others
It's greatly appreciated.
Thank you Mike,
I have noticed this also. It's fantastic that people are seeking the best information to gain the knowledge to tackle these situations. Wow! Thats a whole lot of interest in your articles my friend. As for a book - gee, I would've thought it has a place for sure. As I have said before - the topic at least has to have its own section in an updated version of one of your existing books, or be included in a new book.
Thanks for the "props" on the Hilux too Mike.
This was my second single stage paint project this week. I had a three owner, NZ new 57 Chevy Belair sedan, in Colonial Cream, with the Onyx Black roof in earlier in the week. Mostly OEM paint (thin thin thin!) but some ugly refinished panels too. I recall you mentioning in a thread about "matching orange peel" & whomever done the paint work on the 57 actually applied the paint intentionally with enough orange peel that it matched the look of how oxidised the rest of the car was.
As strange as doing it this way is/was, I am greatful they didn't go the other way because the paint was so thin, chances are they would've buffed through. I managed to polish the refinished panels to a finish that matched the OEM paint & although, not a show car finish, it did turn out pretty nice.
Thanks for the time Mike.

Great job buddy! It's so glossy now that it looks like it has clear on it.

Thank you FGFennec,
Actually, I agree. Toyota single stage red does seem to come back really nice the majority of the time. Definitely red pads but in the name of shine - it's all good.

Thank you Don,
It came out looking pretty good. When I first saw this Hilux, I noticed the two front fenders had been refinished & I was gutted because most of the time, any refinished panels nowadays are usually base/clear, & they never seem to look the same. Surprisingly, they were single stage too & looked pretty sweet when finished.

That truck was in really good shape for its age. Even better now that you restored its shine. Nice work!
