    1991 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet (964)

    1991 Porsche 911 2 Cabriolet (964)
Grand Prix White code 908 (single stage)
    36,000 miles

I had a client bring me his all original Porsche 911 to see if I could ‘re-condition’ it a bit.

The paint and trim are original and were in need of some TLC.

The paint was full of swirls, scratches and haze. It was very dead and lifeless. It was also in dire need of claying/decon. It felt rough even to the bare hand. The trim was very dirty and needed to be cleaned/conditioned/coated to bring some life back to it.

The process: UWW waterless wash was used to clean the vehicle. It was clayed with a medium nano pad. Clay lube was Dodo born slippery.

Paint readings via DeFelsko. The readings were average and I had decent thickness to work with. I did not want to get overly aggressive so I could leave some on the table for future corrections.

Compound of choice was my old friend M205. An un-identified yellow heavy cut pad wound up on the Flex. Polish used was CarPro Essence with a Gloss pad. Flex 3401, GG6” and iBrid were the machines brought into play for this one. Lighting was provided via Scangrip. 3M tape and miscellaneous MF towels were used.

During the test spot I noticed that I was pulling a ton of dead paint off revealing some pretty nice paint underneath. It was starting to become very smooth and glossy after a few passes. I knew my combo was the ticket for this German cabriolet.

After the initial cutting, Essence came into play and really amped up the gloss and slickness.

Polish Angel Viking Coat was my LSP of choice. I wanted something that offered maximum protection along with a nice Nuba glow that this paint/vehicle deserved. The trim was cleaned with Adam’s APC and coated with CarPro Dlux. It brought the depth, color and luster back to the trim.

Glass was cleaned and sealed with SCG Pro glass cleaner and sealant.

The wheels were removed in order to clean the wheel wells and calipers. The calipers were coated with Dlux. Wells were cleaned with Adam’s APC. Wheel lugs torqued back to factory spec via Snap On.

Wheels were cleaned with Griots heavy wheel cleaner, the tires via TufShine cleaner. Misc speedmaster and other brushes were used. Wolfgang Autobathe was the shampoo used. The wheels were coated with Dlux. Tire dressing was Adam’s tire shine.

Drying and vacuum needs were handled by Metro.

I also got to use my new Ranger QuickJack with this detail. I have wanted to add one to my arsenal of tools for a while and finally pulled the trigger. I love it!!! Wheels off are now a breeze…no more jacking around with floor jacks and jack stands. It also makes compounding/polishing the rocker areas and lower areas much easier on the back. No more lying on the floor to access the lower/underneath areas! Yeah!

Interior areas were cleaned up with Pinnacle vinyl and leather cleaner. Leather was conditioned with Pinnacle leather conditioner. Interior carpet protected by Gyeon fabric coat.
The top was lightly cleaned with 1Z APC (diluted) and then brushed and lint rolled. It was treated with HD fabric.

End result: I believe that the good doctor at Autodermatology breathed some much needed life back into the finish, both inside and out, of this 27 year old classic air cooled, all original Porsche. Check out the pictures and decide for yourself!

    Thanks for looking!

    Interior:

50/50 of trim cleaned and coated and un-coated:

50/50 of seatback. Dry, begging for some conditioning!
