    Would it be better to first clay the car, and then Iron X it?
    I was just wondering if claying it first helped open up the pores in the clear coat, so that the Iron X can dissolve any contaminants...

    You will be fine buffing it with a compound. The polyurethane finish is pretty tough. I have buffed out a lot of conference tables at work with a Makita and some 3M.

    I use them. The yellow ones from Costco.
    They work great for cleaning inside. Just wash them a couple of times first. Mine would leave yellow lint behind until I laundered them.

    Welcome! Best advice is not to buy too much stuff when you first start. Buy some basic stuff and give it a go, then see what you need/want later. The 3D line gets some great reviews, and their prices...
