    Re: What would cause this?

A little late on the response... but it looks like someone tried getting something off of the paint with a magic eraser - ive known a couple of people that did that

    Re: specific swirl questions

My thought on it is that if you're concerned about taking off too much clearcoat, think about using a spray wax after each wash that has fillers. I have been polishing my cars once or twice a year...

    Flow Chart

Check out the link above. Least aggressive method first. There are a lot of helpful articles in the forum. If you're going to polish/compound, Meg's ultimate line is great for newbies...

  5. Re: Looking for very good body shop in Chicago burbs

Not sure how "west" you are, but Tom and Jerry's auto body (on the far NW side of chicago) did some really good work on my Girlfriends highlander - WAYYYYY better than Gerber. It was all body...

Re: What's the deal with palm polishers?

Get a 7424xp or GG6 like dlc95 said. If you dont do it now, you will eventually... the only difference being that you will say, "I wish I would have done this sooner'

    Re: 3M Headlight restoration compound?

I've used ultimate compound before - it worked pretty well.
  9. Re: Question regarding the “no tools required” 3M HL Restoration Kit

I have the kit with the backing plate for a drill. I found I got better results with a sanding block and sandpaper by hand. It was easier to evenly level down the headlights. Maybe i just have bad...
  10. Re: Waterless Wash vs Quick Detailer vs Spray Wax

Bob/Willow, thanks for the info... I cant believe i didnt see that Mike Philips article before.
  11. Waterless Wash vs Quick Detailer vs Spray Wax

    Hello All,
Even with the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, I have to ask this question.

My primary question is when to use a Quick Detailer vs when to use a spray wax. My thoughts are that...

Re: I am an advanced car washer

Im about in the same boat as you, except for I just do it as a hobby. I think it's not just a small town thing - I live in Chicago and its the same way. Even if you go to the wealthier suburbs -...

    Re: Polish only horizontal panels?

My thoughts would be to use an AIO - HD Speed on a white pad works really well for me. My paint is Toyota and Scion, so its soft, but not terribly soft. And I usually top off the car with 845, 476s...

Re: Silverstars, HID or LED headlights??

I've done HID retrofits on three cars. I bought cheapo HID kits from Amazon for all 3 (One was $50, one was $60, and one was $75). I used the stock headlight housing.

    2007 Scion TC (9006 lamps -...

  20. Re: Clean Bra Removal Nightmare, need some suggestions.

I 2nd the Goo Gone idea. Its what I always use to remove adhesive. I've never let it dwell for a long time... so im not sure if it has any permanent affects on paint.

Re: What causes tiny divots in paint?

I HATE those marks. My car and my G/Fs car both have them. Soft toyota paint for us.
  23. Re: My first attempt at claying...what did I do wrong?

This may be a stupid question, but did you get stuck behind someone that may have sprayed their windshield wiper spray excessively? Not sure if those spots are literally all over.... but that reminds...
  24. Re: Car Paint restoration step #2 : Meguiars Ultimate Compound Review
