  1. Re: 1954 Buick Special - Coating Training Car for September Class

Looks like a fun project..........is the Buick single stage paint, or has it been repainted with modern basecoat/clearcoat paint ?

    Re: Lake country backing plate

I have been also looking at that model, but it appears to have a "special pad mount" design according to Flex literature. Here's what the backing plate looks like BP-M D150 XFE/XCE - Special velcro...

Re: 4 inch CCS Pads Discontinued?

I had similar questions. When I read Mike Phillips' book Mike Phillips' The Complete Guide to a Show Car Shine E-book - Download, he commented that the design of the pad is the least of one's...

Re: 4 inch CCS Pads Discontinued?

If you need a 3" backing plate for the PC, they are available. I just purchased a Lake Coutry 3" plate last week from a large online seller. AGO has them here Porter Cable 7424 Backing Plates-...

Re: How to tell if filler or wax was used

Good luck with getting it fixed. Even when they service it, make sure they don't just routinely run it through the scrub and swirl tunnel before delivering it back to you. I recently asked my...
  7. Re: How restore deep satin black between cab windows ?

Well I tried a test spot with D166 since that's what I had, and voila! I wound up using a 4" LC orange CCS pad on a Flex 3401. Two sets of 6 section passes each at speed 4, and it looks about 95%...
  8. Re: Finally broke down and ordered "The Complete guide to a show car shine"

Mike's book has become my go to book for quite awhile and I still get use out of it after several years. I made the mistake of ordering the i-Book when he first published it, but I've since moved to...
  9. Re: How restore deep satin black between cab windows ?

That's kind of how the 303 AP looks that I need to remove and try something else. BTW saw your location....... "Rochester NY" was my home town many years ago (Webster). I hear the bay and lake are...
  10. Re: How restore deep satin black between cab windows ?

It isn't matte, rather smooth and satin, but no substantial gloss, so I'm thinking about doing a very small test spot. Unfortunately there isn't an inconspicuous place since they're at eye level.
  11. Re: How restore deep satin black between cab windows ?

Folks, I really appreciate all the helpful suggestions !

The restoration on that '04 Tacoma is absolutely great. I have some D166, but think I need to try the McKees coating prep. I'm...

  13. Re: How restore deep satin black between cab windows ?

Thanks much for the suggestions. On mine, the black extends beneath the rubber trim adjacent to the panels so I think it would be difficult for me to do a clean edged job if I were to try...
  14. How restore deep satin black between cab windows ?

I recently polished a 2007 Tundra with Meguiars D166. Now that the truck is so shiny, the faded black panels (decals ?) between the cab windows are really an eyesore. I tried some 303 Aerospace...

  16. Re: Review: Meguiar's D166 Ultra Polishing Wax by Mike Phillips

After reading the initial product review by Mike Phillips and so many subsequent positive reviews, I simply needed to try Meguiars D166 for my self. I was absolutely awestruck at how fast and...

I have a driveway that is constructed with pavers. I'd like to clean the tires on my two vehicles and apply Tuf Shine tire coating. I know that it will take several cleanings and am concerned...

Re: DIY LED Work Light (much better than halogen!)

I built this one after reading this thread. It shows every imperfection very easily, even in my charcoal silver paint.
