  1. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Just wanted to add that I found somewhere else that Mike is now using the Buff n shine blue coarse pads since Rupes discontinued the old ones in case anyone is wondering.

    Also just compared Rupes...
  2. Re: Pad recommendations for light-medium oxidation with GG DA orbital buffer to pair with Marinee 31

I was going to say the Rupes Blue Course pads that I just posted about and Mike had introduced in the thread, but I just saw that they are discontinued?

Mike, are the new Rupes D-A Course Blue...
  3. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

This post is long overdue, but I finally got around to doing a substantial part of the boat with the Captain's One Step Compound and Polish. I used the Griots G9 and the blue coarse Rupes pads as...
  4. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Still not completely happy as it still doesn't have that hard glassy surface look. May have to try to use the wool pads again with another product, or break down and wet sand and then try the wool....
  5. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Wool with perfect didn't do much again....seems the blue coarse pads were better.

Tried the blue coarse with some old Marine 31 Heavy oxidation and cleaner. This worked much better. Still not to...
  6. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Okay, finally got around to trying this out. The whole pandemic put a halt on a boating trip so I wasn't as motivated. I have had some success but not perfect yet. The blue rupes coarse pad...

    Thanks! Will do. :xyxthumbs:
  8. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Thanks for all the information Mike. Yes I red through some your class examples and the two very badly oxidized blue boats was amazing. The pictures you showed of the maroon one and the gloss...
  9. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

basically they are saying I didn't get a glossy finish because I didn't wet sand or cut hard enough because the boat is in worse shape than I think. So they think I should I should do the entire...
  10. Re: Polishing gelcoat makes it go dull - what am I doing wrong?

I looked for awhile too and couldn’t find it. Got the same discontinued you did.
  11. Re: Polishing gelcoat makes it go dull - what am I doing wrong?

So looks like it isn't available anymore? I would like a copy too.
  12. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Yeah, the guys on the mastercraft forum are saying I need to wet sand. Would really like to avoid that as the gelcoat is actually in pretty good condition....not chalky at all.

    Going to get the...

Re: RUPES LHR 15ES vs 12E Duetto

Yeah, I was looking at the G9 last night. Might be a good option given the price point. Seems like it would provide me a better experience than the PC, without a huge $$ outlay. What are the...

Re: RUPES LHR 15ES vs 12E Duetto

I think $300 is about the most I can justify to myself. Not set on RUPES, just looking for a noticealby better experience than the PC.

RUPES LHR 15ES vs 12E Duetto

I am considering upgrading from my Porter Cable 7424, not because I need more correction but I would just like some that is more enjoyable to use, doesn't vibrate as bad and is easier to handle. ...
  17. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Yeah. I think the other one is the rotary version. The RU-150H-B sure looks coarse though....hard to imagine it producing a glossy finish, but based on what Mike said it must.
  18. Re: Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Hmmm....just read the thread about dulling the finish using foam pads.....

I've got some LC yellows to try, but looks like I may be buying some Rupes Course Blue pads based on the advice there. ...

Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Hi All, I posted this on a mastercraft forum but figured I might get some more direct detailing advice here.

    I was...
  20. Re: Question for the pros. How do you "get rid" of a customer?

My opinion as a customer would be increase the price to what others are paying and what you want to receive. If I was told the following as a customer, I wouldn't like it, but I would understand and...

Re: Invisible Spots / ValuGard Decon ?

I think step B alkaline neutralizer says not to use on trim and only paint. Seems like it would be pretty hard not to get it on some trim if one is doing the roof. How sensitive are trim components...

Re: Invisible Spots / ValuGard Decon ?

Did a quarter of the hood with 3 passes of a megs cutting microfiber pad and 3D One using a porter cable 7424. Everything came out easy enough....guess we will see if they come back.

Re: Invisible Spots / ValuGard Decon ?

Thanks for the you tube reference. I will look that up. Is this something in your opinion that I could do just on the hood, or do you have to do the whole car?

Re: Invisible Spots / ValuGard Decon ?

    Thanks for the welcome....I think...
