Re: Best protection from birds? Film or Ceramic

"he" likely does not - but apparently his company does, using his name :)

Re: Interior hard plastic scratches and scuff

Because I'm not planning on removing the wood from the interior, lots of taping and covering will be involved - and likely a 3" backing plate with smaller pads than what I have now (6").

Re: Best protection from birds? Film or Ceramic

Wow...no, I did not know that! Thanks for the update. Does he post on a forum sponsored by 3D? I'm at their site and don't see a link to a forum, but I do see plenty of social media stuff and videos...

Re: Best protection from birds? Film or Ceramic

Thanks. Yeah, I do plan on keeping my car for another 5 years or possibly more, so I think it's worth it. I know the films have gotten better over time. I figure, instead of that cutoff less than...

    Awesome thank you!
  6. Re: How to do a Test Spot and then buff out your car! Video Explanation by Mike Phillips

I'll consider myself lucky - I did use a "Oxiclean free" generic type of detergent as that's what we always use. Thank you!

Re: Interior hard plastic scratches and scuff

I have some swirl (not sure ### the last owner did...) and hazing on the interior wood trim of my car. Is there anything that can be done about that short of having the wood trim replaced? It has...

Re: Best protection from birds? Film or Ceramic

On this same topic, not to hijack the thread but it's been dormant for a while - I have some 3M paint protection film on my 2014 Benz, and Mike, you had mentioned maybe don't go too abrasive on it...
  9. Re: What it looks like when you buff through the clearcoat - Burn Through - Strike Through - Mike Phillips

The damage on my panels isn't nearly as bad as the damage in the first photo of the black paint above. There are significant swirls even after a couple attempts to mitigate. After reading the posts...

Just saw this response - will read this first! (Re: my above post)
  11. Re: What it looks like when you buff through the clearcoat - Burn Through - Strike Through - Mike Phillips

This is great info. All the work I've been doing lately is to my 8 year old daily driver, a Benz E350 with black paint and a LOT of swirl. I haven't got all the scratches and swirl out yet but have...
  12. Re: How to do a Test Spot and then buff out your car! Video Explanation by Mike Phillips

Thank you! I did not catch the name of the tape that Mike was using on the Chevelle in the Test Spot video, want to be careful not to just use what's laying around.

    I just used regular laundry...

Re: Best way to clean exterior of windshield

Thank you, this is more what I was looking for. Seems there's a lot of different methods on the forum but I'm happy to use some purpose-specific products. I did see Mike's video on test spotting...
  14. Re: How to do a Test Spot and then buff out your car! Video Explanation by Mike Phillips

Wow. I should have watched this before the last two Saturdays spent with my Griot's buffer. I'm only halfway in and will watch the rest, but I did not prime the orange pads. Otherwise I think I did...

Re: Best way to clean exterior of windshield

I did try a regular clay bar that didn't have much effect on the glass - may have improved it a little but not much. I know there are glass "cutting" pads out there so I just assumed a polish pad, by...

Re: Best way to clean exterior of windshield

Now that I'm comfortable using my Griot's buffer, I'm assuming the Griot's brand glass polish pads are just fine for the windshield and glass roof.

Because there are a lot of different approaches...

Re: Lake Country CCS pads - how to video?

I will do more passes this weekend. I'm assuming since I just clay-barred the whole car a few days ago, I don't need to repeat that, just give it a good wash and buff away, then add wax on the panels...

Re: Lake Country CCS pads - how to video?

Thank you...so when I attempt again, should I use the rubbing compound first w/ the orange pad given it may need that extra level of aggression, or do you mean just use the finishing polish and white...

Re: Lake Country CCS pads - how to video?

To clarify: I did at least 3-4 passes per section initially, then went back and did the same (sometimes more than 3-4 passes) on the second attempt...I did not just pass by the area once and not go...

Re: Lake Country CCS pads - how to video?

Glen, after reading your most recent reply again, I think what I need to do is be more vigilant and just use finishing polish next time w/ the white pad on the finer scratches, go slow, go over them...

Re: Lake Country CCS pads - how to video?

Wow - it's been a long time but I finally, finally got around to using all this stuff. Yesterday I used the Griot's random orbital after a good wash and clay bar treatment - I used the Mothers...

Re: Best way to clean exterior of windshield

Hi, thank you so much for this useful post and info!

I am on the Adam's site and cannot find their fine glass polish product, or the pads - any other brand you'd recommend that's fool proof (for...
  24. Re: Backing Plate Swap - 5 inch backing plate for the Griot's Garage G9

My friend got a Black and Decker WP900. It comes with a 6" backing plate. Do you know if this 5" plate will work in its place? I can't find any info about it in the docs for the buffer that I can...

Re: Lake Country CCS pads - how to video?

    Thanks Glen - helpful tips!

The CCS pads are on their way, and while it seems flat would work just fine, I'm going to try this out with the orange and white CCS pads on my Benz's black paint....
