    Rubber trim around windows

What would you all use to clean and protect the rubber trim around camper windows to stop the black streaks?

    That's not a fun job.

For cleaning, some terry cloth, like an old wash cloth. The cotton nap will provide some gentle scrubbing action.

Then you can use just about any liquid solvent. Glass cleaner would work. A dedicated vinyl or rubber cleaner would work. A tire cleaner would work. Griot's makes a dedicated "Rubber Cleaner" - it would work.

As for how to then SEAL the rubber so it will not streak?

I'd take a look at either the Tuff Shine Tire Coating or the Pinnacle Black Label Tire Clear Coat. Both will dry to a hard, non-oily or non-greasy finish and seal the rubber to make it like plastic.

Both will be a pain in the arse to apply.

This is one of those jobs where there is not, quick, fast and easy.

Thanks Mike. I have some Gtechnic trim restorer, that should protect it after cleaning won’t it?

I like Meguiar’s #39 to clean that. And I use either Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant or McKee’s 37 Trim Restorer. Both keep the rubber nice and black for months at a time.

I'd test it first before using up an entire bottle for this application.

I've used the GYEON Trim Restorer and it's good stuff but I think I've only used it on plastic.

    So test first.

The best thing I've found for black streaks is simply to not let them get started. Get some sort of protection on the rest of the surfaces that allows the streaks to be wiped off.

I didn't even think of trying the McKees trim restorer that I have, but I have frameless windows so the streaks are mainly caused by dirt.

Very effective in such situations helps Liqui Moly Gummi-pflege.
