As for the sanding, what is your queue for when an area has been sanded enough that the fade and dead has been taken care of? Wish one of you knowledgeable folks was in Ohio.
I think once I know this I'm going to give it a shot.

I'm curious too as I cannot find any detailed guides on this, how to you identify if you need to sand or if a compound will suffice? I do have some shine (very little but there?). As I research oxidation on gel coat I see 100% dull finishes and that's not my case. I may still be a candidate for wet sanding or sanding, I just want to make sure before I dive in.

Just finished a sun beat 2010 dodge ithasca. It took me 3 hours just to wash this thing. This finish was flat as Sheetrock.Buffing solely wasn't gonna get the job done properly.Dampsanded with 2000 then sonax cut compound with a wool pad on a gg6, then refined the gloss with menzerna fine cut and gloss on a orange thin pro pads.If you care to look it's on my Facebook page st lucie auto spa.It took 13 hrs for a 2 step cut and polish came out like glass.sonax came through on this one and the mighty gg6.

I don't have any experience with these, but like paint try a test spot or four if you have some products to try.

You could work a couple of sections next to each other with the same combo in an area that is not consistently faded and see what it looks like. If it is inconsistent looking, maybe it would be better to wet sand it?

Did the coating that the detailer applied add any gloss?

Could some quick fix "cover up" coating, if it were used, cause him/you any problems?

Try a test spot in the worst area.
