    Just a question.......

How would a layman or a beginner know what type of paint they were dealing with without doing a physical test spot?
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

    Good point.

I look at it as something to refer to once the test spot has been done, and didn't deliver the expected result.

This might give a beginner a start point for polishing. Other than that it’s pretty much useless.

I admire their attempt to help people....

Those charts must have took a LONG time to create.

My experience with pro detailers is they don't tend to read much.

As someone that does do a light of writing, I can appreciate the time involved to create so much data. Nice work RUPES.

You answered your own question. The only accurate way to know if the paint on a car is hard, soft, somewhere in-between, etc is to do a Test Spot.

And the thing about doing a Test Spot is in order for the results to have any real meaning, the person doing it must have experience. I explain this on page 9 and 10 in my how to book

The Complete Guide to a Show Car Shine Paperback Book by Mike Phillips

And the only way to get experience is to buff out a lot of cars and when doing a Test Spot - LOCK INTO YOUR BRAIN the process and the results so moving into the future every time you do a NEW Test Spot on the next car you buff out, you can gauge the results from the current Test Spot with your data base of experience doing previous test spots.

That's an answer I would say most people that are new to machine polishing don't and won't like but that's how paint polishing works.
