    What replacement backing plate?

I smoked a backing plate today on my MKII 21. I see there are 2 different replacement backing plates.
What one is better/should I get to replace my factory plate?

    Thanks!

From what I read, only one of them works with the MkII right? That is the non Skorpio version.

It's my understanding that only 2 6" plates that will work are the 21es plate or a 21mark2 plate

    Re: What replacement backing plate?

If you want to replace the plate with the same factory installed (gray ring) part you want the 981.320N backing plate.

If you want to replace the plate with the high engagement plate (blue ring) that was original to the ES tools you want the 981.321N backing plate.

Both those part numbers will have the correct notch for the Mark II pin. Both are the 150mm (standard for the 21mm tools) size.

    Enjoy!

    Scott or Dylan,

How long (hours of operation) should a backing plate last on 15mm or 21mm Mark II? Guessing the 21mm will go through plates faster? I noticed my 15 mm mark II was dry yesterday and lubed it up with dielectric grease. How often are you guys/gals lubricating the back plates?

In both situations its "as needed".

The plates will last varying amounts of time depending on how they're used. Some people are really hard on them and can kill a plate inside a year, others go 3-4 years before ever looking tired. The biggest telling sign you need a replacement plate is its no longer flat on the face (edges are curling up from polishing curves or using heavy pressure) or the pads no longer adhere properly to the velcro hooks.

As far as lube - if you start to notice black skids on the plate back or hear/smell any signs of excessive drag. I usually put a drop of dielectric grease on the plate every 4-5 uses and it keeps it good - probably doesn't need to be that often even, but thats just my personal routine.
