DeWalt 849x gets better and better:)

I've had my 849x for a couple of months now and must save I love it

It's so smooth to operate , I've used 3" pads all the way up to my 8" double sided wool pad and nothing but fun using it.
This weekend I'm working on a 2010 Benz e550, I'm having to use different backing plates and pads due to the condition of the paint and the lines of the car, like I said, I love my DeWalt 849x

If your wanting to move to to a rotary or want to upgrade from the one you have now look into the DeWalt.

I have a rotary too, but it's old, really heavy, the lowest it goes is 1,000. Plus it's not yellow and it doesn't say Dewalt it says Buffmaster haha. I have been considering a Dewalt. Just to have it so we'll see.

The shop uses Dewalts and that's what I learned on. So I am comfortable with them and they work great.

Your doing the whole car rotary Kevin?

In most case I am, I get good results faster.
The DeWalt is very well balanced Art.

I tell you since owning the DeWalt I say bring me those big F-350's, bring them to me

I have plans to do our two church vans when I'm better and the youth isn't using them.
As for restoring headlights I only use the rotary along with 4" pads now.

Question Re: DeWalt 849x gets better and better:)

    Thanks for the review, Kevin.

I wonder how the 849X compares to other polishers in terms of how smooth it runs and how noisy it is?

I saw it on this youtube video and it sounded kind of loud and gravel-ly. Dewalt 849x Soft Start from 0 to 3500 Rpm - YouTube

    It's not that loud IMO.
As for as running smooth, it's very smooth and easy to control, even for it's size.
There's something in the unti that holds it's RPM's.
Say you set the RPM's at 1200, if you press down on it the RPM's stay at the set speed , if you lighten up it does the same, keeping it's set speed.

For that reason you don't get that jerky feeling as some of the cheaper rotaries have.
It's also a work horse, you can use it straight for 12 hours without problems.
    Well balanced.

It's a great unit all the way around.
Some don't like the soft start but it does make it easy to spread the polish on start up.
