Re: Edging the DA... A Game Changer

Very nice writeup! KB is the king of exact fit BPs! I need to place an order with him!

Will this technique work with a PCXP or GG6 or is it specific to the G110v2?
I have used the fantastic KB BPs (both) with the new 3rd Gen GG with stunning results. Edging is a true game changer with a DA. I also have the DynaBrade DA converter for rotaries. It has a 3/4" throw and much much more power than a RUPES.

BTW I use the edging method only for deeper defects. The rest of the time I keep the pad flat. I don't think this has caused any wear and tear on the BPs or the DAs.
Thanks John for a great review

Re: Edging the DA... A Game Changer

Jon, I appreciate your article and bringing this to the forum.
While reading your article, I wondered whether the bp and pad being the exact same size vs the edging technique were two different subjects or were totally dependant on each other?

So, assuming edging isn't involved, how much better cut do you get after shaving your bp with a razor?
    Thank you,
    Justin

Thanks John for a great review
I agree that this technique is best reserved for smaller defects like bird bombs and RIDS that remain after a section has been compounded

I believe trying the edge out an area larger than half the size of the pad is actually slower than keeping the pad flat. It does give the perception that it's faster because you can see the results as they happen

My current method is to compound the section, inspect closely with 800w LED and then hit remaining defects with a 3" DAMF Cutting Pad/M100...edging while watching it disappear and then flat for 2 additional passes

Watch the heat very close when using this technique

Just my experience, whatever works beat for you and your machine

Is there a video PAR Detailing that shows this? I am having a hard time following here.

I have seen the way Kyle does it, and it does work great.
