In Search of a Good Portable Tire Inflator: HELP!!

    Hello everyone,

I was not sure where to direct this question. However, I am all for being as self-sufficient as possible on the road. I am in search of a portable tire inflator, so that heaven forbid if I experience a flat or low tire pressure, I can whip it out, inflate my tires and be on my way. Yesterday, a family member bought me a Hyper Tough digital tire inflator from Walmart, but I wasn't impressed. I went on YouTube to see someone else use it, but it is extremely loud. I have been searching for a better product but no such luck.

    What I am looking for:

    1. An inflator that isn't too loud.
    2. In terms of power, I would prefer one that uses a regular outlet. The Hyper Tough inflator I have uses the 12V cigarette light in my car for power, which I do not like. If it is something that I can charge in my house and use cordless near my car, that would be great.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Good question. I’ve been looking for a battery type tire inflator like Ryobi offers. Just wonder if it works well.

I got the Ryobi for my birthday. I haven’t used it extensively but from what I can tell so far, it works pretty well. I use it whenever my low tire pressure indicator goes on on cold days here. I’d bring it with me on a road trip for sure.

For the price, you can't beat the Ryobi.

Most "As Seen on TV" products are pieces of crap, but the Air Hawk tire inflator works very well. It has a rechargeable battery and an option for the cigarette lighter outlet. It even has an LED light.

After junking the As Seen on TV Tire Inflator, bought the Ryobi based on reviews and haven't regretted it yet.

The Ryobi is looking good. The price for the tool is low, $20 at Home Depot, but the price of the battery pack and charger is all over the place. Which battery voltage works best or does it matter?

You want the higher voltage if there's a choice (I would think they only carry one voltage). The amperage of the batteries may vary. More is definitely better. If the price is right, I would always go for the higher amp battery.
